梅光軒 Baikohken — Restaurant in Islands District

Summary: Surly service with cockroaches and eyelashes.

Details:

In transit, ordered 2 veg ramen (item no. 3 on menu). Middle aged woman manning counter was surly, both while taking order and when I took the trays after order was ready. Was it that I spoke in English?

When order was ready, there was a mid-sized cockroach right on the counter next to my trays! Counter woman cooly shooed it away.

Took the trays to our desk and then found a long eyelash stuck to one of the bowls. Not visiting this place...

Got the #4, Butter and Corn Charshiu shio ramen. 10 minute wait.

Not the best ever, but definitely worth the cost for a hungry layover, as it is 5x better than 90% of the ramen I ate in the U.S., Europe and Israel.

Noodles are okay though not amazing, nice broth, great pork belly.

Go for it, I bet you won't...

About a year and a half ago, I had a transit in Hong Kong, and came over this place. I had the Vegetarian Miso Ramen with a ramen egg, and it was so delicious I got obsessed with trying to make something like it at home in Norway. Nothing comes close though, and I long for the next visit or transit...
