I went with a friend to Ebeneezer's Kebabs in Ngong Ping this lunch. We were appalled to see that the food were all in plastic disposable containers, and the folks and spoons were plastic as well. Not only that, each of the pieces is inside a plastic bag, meaning that you participate in creating tonnes of waste just by a simple meal there. We ordered curry vegetables and vegetables in another sauce. All the veggies were the same and there were no fresh veggies like potato, broccoli, egg plant etc, those sort of fresh veggies that you would expect to find in a restaurant for a curry veggie meal. Instead, they were exactly those assorted frozen veggies you would find in supermarkets. The manager assured us that the veggies served were freshly chopped, not frozen, still, even if it's true, since they were in cheap, small plastic bowls, they look cheap and won't be able to convince anyone otherwise. Truth to be known, we paid HK$200 for just 2 small bowls of veggies in sauce and 2 servings of naan bread, plus a bottle of water - we thought we could have a glass of water, but were told to get a bottle from the fridge and had to pay HK$16 for that! The most important thing is the plastic used and thrown away each and every single day. We learned that the boss of the company simply considers cost ahead of social responsibility; he prefers to throw away thousands of pieces of plastic than to hire someone to wash the dishes, to save cost and to maximise profit. There you go. I will not go there anymore, and I suggest those who care about the environment will not eat at these sort of places. You're charged for food that doesn't deserve the money you have to pay, and you would end up creating volume of waste that will end up in the landfill - we were told that waste was not separated, everything was dumped in the same bag. Don't eat at Ebeneezer's! I didn't want to give a star, but it's a must...
Read moreCompared with other restaurants of this company in whole HK area, this particular branch surprisingly does not provide very good experience :(
Place is luckily clean and doesn't look bad talking about overall visual side, to be fair - it should be also said that taste and quality of the food is on very similar or same level as other Ebenezers in HK, fortunately - the main thing! :)
Indoor space is quite noisy and bit cold (I guess do to overuse of AC), outdoor area with plastic tables and plastic chairs feels fake (although spacious) - all equipment including huge umbrellas is wobbly and feels cheap / disturbing your dinning experience.. Music from the sound system installed in entire "village" area is trash (very short commercial cheap playlist +loud)
Food is served in plastic boxes or on tiny paper plates with plastic (single use) cutlery! :( That in combination with unstable terrifying tables can make whole thing almost traumatising but I guess it's also result of the "commercial area - village management" itself, because these type of equipment can be seen in other restaurants on the yard as well.
Evaluation of Ngong Ping Village in particular would take some energy, if covered properly - very commercial and fake place with many ugly details bringing disturbance to otherwise nice and unique area (which Ngong Ping as the mountain and areas with temples in the nature definitely is!) You can have alot of fun in nature and nearby spots if arriving by cable car but the "artificial commercial Ngong Ping village" is better to avoid. Feeling pity to be so critical but in this case it would be really better if there is just pure area with few rocks and trees instead of that "plastic fakes" ....and everything would be fine :)
Would be nice bonus if restaurant could provide simple cup of drinkable water (either for symbolic...
