I feel bad posting negative reviews, but It was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. And I feel like I should share my experience to remind the others to aviod this restaurant.
We were at first very excited about dining in this restaurant and tried to order some popular items according to others’ reviews. Two out of three dishes weren’t available (included the Cuttlefish Sashimi and Crispy Chicken w. Garlic). We ended up getting the Razor Clams with Black Bean Sauce, a steamed live fish, Braised Pork Belly, Crispy Tofu with Salted Duck Egg Yolk, and a few fresh abalone. They messed up the tofu dish which they gave us a regular Salt and Pepper Tofu instead. To make the case worse, we ordered 4 razor clams but ended up getting just a few pieces, but tons of garlic and ginger…I feel like we were cheated by them! (We did get 4 razor clam shells that they piled them at the bottom) NEEDLESS TO SAY IT WAS SUPER SALTY!!! The pork belly was somehow not fresh we didn’t even touch a bit. Needless to say the rest of the dishes are just mediocre.
The last straw was, after the other party left, we were the only one staying in the dining area. Then, all of a sudden, the servers started rearranging tables and chairs, causing a loud squeaky noise which was extremely unpleasant. We then decided to leave immediately. Is this how a Michelin 1 star restaurant treats their customers? I guess they just don’t need any customers because they already have the Michelin Star.
The whole dinner costs us ~HKD $27xx for 3 seafood dishes + 1 meat + 1 vegetarian. This is not about how much it costs, it’s about how awful the food was. If everything is better, I don’t mind paying overpriced food. Sadly but honestly, this price was just a rip-off.
Before we picked this place, we already knew that it’s more pricey than other restaurant, even the well-known one in SaiKung. We still decided to go to this one because we were expecting good food quality and decent services, which are definitely worth the price in most cases. It’s totally a shame that I even bought my foreign friends here SMH! How can I not be pissed with this poor food quality and services we received.
(If you wonder why did I say nothing to the staff, I will never complain about food in a restaurant before I head my way out as I learned. It also doesn’t matter if we complain or not, as we will not return, and they are unlikely to change. Wish them luck in maintaining...
Read moreWith a Michelin star in both 2016 and 2017, this restaurant is a definite go-to when in Sai Kung. They received their star for the crispy skin chicken, so if you're hoping to get a taste of this dish, go early or call in to make a reservation for this dish! By the time we came for dinner at 7pm on a weekend evening, they were already out for the day.
Instead, we ordered other dishes that were still amazing! We had vegetables with bamboo fungus ($98HK), fried rice noodle with eggplant and chilli ($98HK), and fried pork rib with honey ($128HK), full plate of 8 ribs). I know some of these dishes sound unappetizing, but let me tell you, they were so the opposite of that! Oddly, I think my favorite out of all 3 of these dishes were the vegetables with bamboo fungus, which was steamed cabbage or bok choy (not sure) with "bamboo fungus" which are gelatinous-like thin slices that were strangely crispy and chewy at the same time. It's very hard to explain, but the texture was so interesting to the palate. The light and fresh veggies were nice to have along with the oily noodles and heavy pork ribs. The noodles were nice too and I'm a big fan of eggplant which were cooked to be really soft. The pork ribs were sweet with honey and tender so you weren't fighting to get the meat off the bone. It was absolutely delicious!
The total bill came out to about $60USD, which is reasonable for 3 dishes at a Michelin restaurant. For the two of us, this was more than enough food. If I could recommend to you what to get, I would say get the Michelin crispy skin pork first and foremost. Then get the vegetables with bamboo fungus for sure. Then the pork ribs. I would say you could replace the noodles if you saw something else on their menu that you thought was interesting. Regardless, I truly enjoyed everything I ate at this restaurant and would definitely go again and also order...
Read moreI visited Loaf On last night, and while the atmosphere and food were okay, the overall experience was extremely disappointing due to the poor service.
Firstly, when we arrived and provided our reservation name, the host at the stand walked away and started assisting someone who came in after us, leaving us standing there very confused.
Secondly, after placing our order, they completely forgot our drink orders, our rice, and one of our dishes. We had to flag them down and remind them multiple times before they brought these items. To make matters worse, one of the dishes we ordered never arrived, and after waiting so long, we ended up canceling it altogether. Additionally, each time we tried to flag down a server, they would proceed to walk alway or serve another table before circling back to us.
Lastly, when we got the bill, we noticed there was an additional service charge on every single seafood item, which was not mentioned beforehand. It felt unnecessary and excessive, especially given the below-average service we experienced throughout the meal.
Overall, I had higher expectations for a restaurant with such a strong reputation. In a place like Sai Kung, where there is no shortage of excellent seafood restaurants, I anticipated much more from a Michelin-starred establishment with such high pricing. Unfortunately, the lack of attentiveness, disorganization, and overall poor service quality fell far short of what one would expect...
