Lived in SH a few years ago (2011) and Oscar's was my among my favorite places to grab a beer and a big greasy double burger with a fried egg on top -- their menu was extensive and dependable. It was even worth overlooking that the place was usually mostly empty, except for the handful of ever-present, constantly sad looking British men that always seemed as if their best days were behind them. Having returned to Shanghai, I'm sad to say Oscar's has taken a serious nosedive. The menu has shrunk to one page of unimaginative dumbed-down "safe pub dishes", the bartenders have virtually no experience (plus side to this is their version of a double whiskey might be considered by others as a quadruple), and now there seems to be a band that plays so loud you can hear it half a block away. I now actively avoid Oscar's. My roommate loves the place, his reasoning being, "it's the only place I can go and nobody will talk to me."
