I have been looking for a place to make a home away from home when travelling to Shanghai for work and I think i finally found it! I can walk to my work on Nanjing Road and in the evening wander the old french concession neighborhood and surrounding areas. ||||The hotel is based in a larger complex but segregated away from it by security and gates i.e a second internal area from the street. In the laregr complex there are restaurants and an office (Really smaller not so large and busy) and to the side is a security gate and entrance to the villas. There are 2 large villas that make up the Julu Gardens and Check in is at the first one. Small desk and a pretty tiny and kinda funny looking work out area just beside it...very conspicious so not a hotel for Gym Bunnies.||||They took my bags for me and checked me in. The manager and another girl have good english but many others will have limited but dont worry everyone is friendly and they will get someone to translate I found over the week. ||||I was escorted to the second villa and my room was at the top floor in the attic area. I adored it! It was like have a flat in Shanghai without the kitchen. Lovely bathroom with unusual shower and large open tiled area. Dormer windows and actually quite quiet. I have a sofa lounge area and desk and large bed and lots of storage in the closet. Only Downside was TV. It only has 2 english Channels and they are Chinese run so a bit dull but that is minor when in such a great city with lots to do outside. I will post Pictures shortyl||||Also the breakfast well is just ok. Salad and a poiece of Cheese and toast. i think its funny what the Cinese see as western food. It probably the same if we reversed cultures. its in the Main building and if you like Chinese breakdast take that option or otherwose just run down Julu Lu and nearby ais a coffe bean coffee shop and a few other places on Fumin Lu. ||||Overall the staff and even the security gate guards are charming and I felt they looked out for me and made note that i was ther etc as i was on my own. Irs a lovely unusual place to stay. ||||if you want luxury room service and a Spa then no but I caould get a massage, mani and pedi 5 minutes away for a good price so why bother with it in a hotel. Cannot reccommend the...
Read morevery nice location in the heart of the former frenc concession||- realy nice rooms - a bit of a touch of the colony times||- larger bathroom with a window||||not so good: ||- avoid the rooms A202 and B202 because you have in the morning a "decent" smell of the kitchen in the basement. Be aware that they prepare hot breakfast||- breakfast: the so called western breakfast consists of hot pasta, a strange tuna salad - all in all: no western breakfast at all. tip: avoid the breakfast and go to a nearby coffe shop||- breakfast service: slow, almost cold coffee (several times) and even after complaining the same coffee was brought again and still cold - just terrible.||||annoying: we booked a business room and the lady at the reception tried to sell us an upgrade for at least 4 times ("the whatever-kind-of-room is much larger, nicer and so on") for the little supplement of 50% of our rate. We refused 4 times but she was stubborn enough...
Read moreSpent few days here with my whole family and booked 5 rooms. Most of the rooms were awesome, with large bathroom including shower and huge bathtub, good light in each one of them. ||Only 1 room was smaller than the others (like 1/2 size of the others) felt i was cheated as the price was the same as the other rooms.||||The breakfast were ok.||||The service need to be improved (no assistance to call taxi, the early checkout took forever while they were informed since the beginning and reminded the day before)||||The location is great, walking distance from subway. The area got a lot of restaurants and is easy to reach by taxi.||||An overall god experience will...
