It was a very nice hotel. Convenient location. Staff was nice and most spoke English very well. From desk agents to the restaurant staff, everyone was professional and polite. Breakfast had a great spread. Pretty yummy too. The room was very nice. Clean, comfortable and spacious. Bathroom had great amenities and it's very big. Overall I had a lovely night stay here. Ok would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful heritage hotel with old shanghai vibe. Built by famous Shanghai mafia 杜月笙in 1934. Location is very strategic, 5 to 10 min walk from 3 rapid transit stations and surrounded by beautiful tree lined roads full of unique restaurants, cafes bars along the old French concession area. Highly recommended stay whilst in Shanghai.

We stayed here during our recently visit to Shanghai. This hotel has been recently renovated and is a traditional looking hotel that takes you back to the old days in Shanghai. It was once home to the godfather of Shanghai, a well know mafia before the communist time. He lived here with his five wives, so he needed a big home. ||I booked this place mainly because I grew up in this area. It's about one block away from the first subway line ever built in Shanghai and less than a block away from Huaihai road, which is the place to see and be seen by local Shanghainese people. The crowd in the area caters more to the expats, but the hotel itself has mostly Chinese guests. Forget Pudong, this is where the real actions are in Shanghai, where celebrities go and the trendiest places are. This hotel is right in the middle of all of that. There is a Peet's coffee across the street and bars with people drinking and facing the street, for example. but if you walk another 100 meter, you can find a hustling and bustling local community near by with a wet market and a few stands for breakfast in the morning. You can get breakfast for less than $1. You totally get an authentic feel of being in the French Concession of Shanghai staying here. Honestly, I felt like not much has changed since I left 20+ years ago. ||The hotel itself was pretty good. with the renovation, the rooms have comfortable beds that meet western standards and nice showers. Those were my two main concerns when staying at a Chinese government run hotel, but I'm glad it all worked out great. since the hotel is pretty old, the rooms are good size as well. There is also a nice pool we got to take advantage of. It's not a five star, mainly because I went in the summer and subway stop still seems a bit far under the heat and humidity. I had to cab it from the hotel to the subway stop, it's one LONG block (about...

We stayed for three nights and truly wished we could have stayed longer. The location is exceptionally convenient—just a 5-10 minute walk from Shaanxi Rd. (S) Metro Station on Line 2. The walk from the station to the hotel is lively, lined with bustling restaurants offering plenty of dining options. The impressive IAPM Mall is also nearby, perfect for shopping and exploring. Plus, it’s just two metro stops to People’s Square, the starting point of vibrant Nanjing Road.||The hotel itself is full of character, reflecting the style and charm of 1920s-30s Shanghai. We learned from our host that the building was originally a private mansion from that era, which adds a unique sense of history. The lobby is beautifully decorated with striking art pieces, making a strong first impression.||Our room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. Housekeeping was prompt and thorough. We appreciated the thoughtful amenities, including toiletries, stationery, an umbrella, and even a complimentary first round from the minibar. The TV offered international channels like CNN and HBO—a welcome change from the usual local options (only state-run CCTV channels) in other hotels. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, though subject to the Great Firewall.||The front desk staff spoke excellent English and were consistently helpful and attentive throughout our stay. Their warm hospitality made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was very nice: the selection was diverse, and the dishes changed daily, keeping things interesting. The only minor downside was a wait for tables during peak breakfast hours.||Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. We highly recommend it and look forward to returning on our next visit...
