Monchis by Coky — Restaurant in Cali

I have been in Cali for a month now for medical. Traveling solo. After two weeks of not having a lot of success in finding my kind of resto, I found Monchis. What a beautiful experience. I found a cozy corner with pillows where I could relax and enjoy a truly comfort food lunch. The atmosphere is wonderful and boasts an ecletec music mix ranging from Colombian rock to the Brat Pack to 70s and 80s classics (even caught myself singing along to my embarassment). Talk about comfort food! Homemade shrimp springrolls that have a kick of a sauce. The chili con carne - all dressed - is a warm hug and comes with homemade tortilla chips.... but the ribs are exceptional. Melting off the bone, tender and juicy ideal to slather with an additive BBQ dipping sauce. This was the last resto I went to before surgery...and the first place I came back to when strong enough. Two lazy afternoons spent at Monchies. Being solo, dining can sometimes be uncomfortable - yet Alejandro made it such a lovely dining experience. Top service! Thursday June 15, 2023 Found myself back in the neighborhood of Monchis. Decided to go in and have some lunch. Ordered 3 Spring Rolls. They were fried. They were good. They were hot. The sauce was sweet and spicy. I enjoy spicy food. Then came the Seafood Paella and Ribs. I was blown away with the Paella. It was moist and flavorful. Looking forward to my next visit. The Ribs, of course, were just as good as the first time I had them. Meat falling of the bone with a slightly sweet BBQ sauce. Delicious!

Had lunch January 6, 2023. The service was awesome. The food, Spare Ribs and baked potato, simply phenomenal. For dessert, Cheesecake, incredible. The owner, Coky, stopped by the table and introduced himself. Asked how was everything in which I replied FANTASTIC. I will return many more times to experience different menu items. We loved this place so much that we're planning to go back for a second dinner while we're in Cali. The drinks were stiff and delicious, the food was amazing, and the service was impeccable.

Alejandro was our server and couldn't have been more charming. The owner, George, heard that we were from Tennessee, so he joined us for a while at our table and regaled us with stories about his family and the city. He is a fascinating character who seems to know everyone who walks in the door.
