La Cosecha Parrillada - Centro — Restaurant in Popayán

Wildly overrated.

Came to this place due to the glowing reviews and we were feeling carnivorous.

Strong start with a HUGE portion of patacón with some delicious accompaniment sauces. Turns out the portions are so big so a starter isn’t really necessary HOWEVER the mains were such a let down that in this case it was.

We had the smoked ribs and trout with shrimp sauce.

The ribs were just intensely chewy meat and unrendered fat - challenging and unpleasant to eat. We think of ribs as falling off the bone and tender - these were the antithesis of our expectations.

The trout did have a nice flavour BUT was very over cooked and completely drowned (you could not even see the fish on the plate) in this bland, thick, white, flour-based gloopy sauce with hard little shrimps in it. Not what I anticipated from a “shrimp sauce”. Also not pleasant.

How disappointing. We should have left post patacón as these were very tasty and filling and the rest of the meal was bad.

The waiting staff were very nice and attentive but clearly the kitchen isn’t up to...

Our waiter was attentive and polite. The service was fast despite it being a Friday night. They gave us free salad with avocado, a bunch of delicious dips and free water with our dessert. The restaurant is popular with tourists and locals alike. One thing that we would have improved is the “Cordon Blue”. It was a bit dry due to the breading that was outside as well as inside (it looked like it was breaded first and then rolled). It would be less dry if they only bread it on the outside. The natural juices were good and just like we ordered them...

Service: Catastrophic waited for ever for my drink and food as well as the check Food: In general the quality seamed well. The beef was good, but the fillet was soaked in a weird heavy mushroom sauce that killed all the flavor. Before ordering a steak make sure that it is grilled and not in a sauce. Also instead of my lemonade they gave me a Jugo which was 2x the price. Even though I told them twice when ordering. My soup was pretty good.
