Restaurante Italiano y Pizzería — Restaurant in Popayán

All the classic Italian fare without the real Italian flavor. Pizza was very basic and the crust lacked any flavor. Asked for sausage and mushrooms with extra sauce and received ground beef on top of salty mozzarella with no sauce. A consolation was a free salad with a basil scented garlic paste for sauce. The menu and pizza box state "authentic Italian pizza" either they are dillusional or intentionally deceptive. They do deliver but the phone was not answered at 4pm so we walked over to order and had delivery to hotel. Took 1.5 hours to deliver a 3/4 baked pizza 6 blocks. Ok. This pizzeria appears in many travelblogs as one of the top restaurants to visit in Popayan. However, I do not recommend it. I frankly do not understand that despite most or all ingredients being readily available in Colombia you can still be so much off. I ate a Margaritha. I highly recommend to not get misguided by these travelblogs and search for alternatives. Admittedly there are not many since mot places are a cafe but some have one or two more substantial dishes on their menu.

I am surprised about all the good reviews on here. While the service is very friendly, the food is not really worth the price. The pizzas and pasta dishes are quite pricey, and really not worth the money. It was my first pizza in Colombia, so I have no comparison as to what is standard here, but you could eat better and cheaper pizza in most countries. Not enough tomato sauce and below...
