Five Maes — Restaurant in Bahía Ballena

I am from Canada but have travelled to many countries around the world over the last 20 years. One thing that is very hard to find outside North America is a good quality hamburger. I have to say that Five Maes is by far the best hamburger I’ve throughout my travels outside North America. The food was so good that during our trip to Uvita we went back multiple times and tried the chicken burger, wings, and every meal had a shake, fries or onion rings. You can even get poutine and if you are Canadian it’s a great treat to find outside Canada! Everything I had was great! Food is high quality, the team working there were extremely friendly and helpful, menu was in both English and Spanish and the people working there spoke English and Spanish as well. Made ordering easy, food was a very good price especially for the quality and quantity (if you’ve spent in CR in touristy spots you know things aren’t cheap). As a former restaurant owner, and friends of the owners of this AWESOME establishment, I can speak both for the quality of the food they serve, the generous, gracious way they treat their employees, and their personal character as well. I do not know the person who felt they needed to take the time to come on this page and try to harm this restaurant's stellar reputation in this community OVER A BAG OF FRIES. but suffice it to say I have had to deal with customers who used public reviews in this manner to salve their own fragile egos over some insignificant slight they feel they suffered. This is one of THE BEST restaurants in the entire southern zone! They use nothing but the BEST ingredients they can find in all of their delicious dishes, going so far as to custom grind their own hamburger using beef brisket! 2 thumbs way way up for the staff, service and effort at this restaurant!! I had heard about this restaurant and how good the quality of the food was but I have Celiac disease ( molecule sensitive) and rarely can I eat at a burger joint. On a whim, I contacted them before before my trip and with enough notice they let me know what days they change the oil in the deep fryer for my fries so I could be the first customer but also suggested that maybe I try the deep fried chicken burger ( they made the batter with yuca (cassava) flour and cornstarch) that they would cook in the same (non gluten contaminated!) oil. I cried after my first few bites it was so good and I was filled with such gratitude…I haven’t been able to eat anything like this at a burger place for 20 years!
