Surf Box — Restaurant in Cabo Velas

Brilliant, fresh food. Friendly staff. I've settled in for a few months so I get to Surf Box once or twice a week, it's right near my apartment.

Great mix of healthy, delicious meals and splurges (the Medianoche is probably the best sandwich I've ever had, but is definitely something to eat only occasionally. It's the very definition of 'cheat meal.')

There are two lovely dining areas, an air-conditioned room full of books and throw pillows for hot afternoons and picnic tables outside under cover with fans, fairy lights and plants for cooler morning or evening dining outside in the breeze.

If you're exhausted or just a bit under the weather, their fresh fruit/veg smoothies and salads will set you right. And I've learned that lemonade blended with ice and a handful of mint is the most refreshing drink ever (I get heat sick, and they've rescued me a few times.)

This place is magical. We stopped for breakfast prior to our sailing charter with Serendipity Tours, based on their recommendation. The location is very convenient to the marina. I messaged ahead of time to see about a reservation; normally these are not possible as it’s a small place but they made an exception for our group size. We ended up being much later than anticipated—we were coming from a distance and Costa Rican driving conditions can be unpredictable—but still the servers at the Surf Box were accommodating and friendly. The food was served quickly and everything we tried was perfect. For our table of 11 we had the pancakes, French toast, avocado toast, chia bowl, lox bagel, breakfast sandwich, and chicken tacos. Across the board everyone thought the thing they ordered was the best they’d ever had. Smoothies and coffees were all nicely done as well. We would definitely return if we make it back...

My friend and I spent several days in Playa Flamingo and we frequented this restaurant daily during our time there and tried many of the items on the breakfast menu! The menu was extensive and had many options. Everything was so delicious and fresh. The coffee was excellent and they offered milk alternatives if you want to avoid dairy for any reason. They had a really nice outdoor seating space as well as an air conditioned indoor space. The ladies that work at the restaurant are so sweet and the service is above and beyond. Everything is made and brought out pretty quickly, even for to-go orders. We also were trying to practice our (rusty) Spanish and the ladies were so sweet and patient with us-giving us positive reinforcement all the way!
