Stop looking! You've found where you're eating tonight!
So as none of you know, I dislike writing reviews and rarely do it, but y'all, AMAZING doesn't even begin to describe the food at this restaurant! True, I've only had the Caribbean chicken with fries and a salad, but y'all, it was Phenomenal! Quite literally the BEST chicken I have ever had IN MY LIFE!!!
Not only was the flavor mind blowing, but the meat was actually falling off the bone tender! And the people there were so nice! Paulina asked me how the food was, and after I raved about the how incredible meal was (and even looked up an online recipe so I could make it when I return to the States) she said the secret was in the flavor from the Panamanian chili pepper (it just added flavor, not spice for those of you who are concerned about spicy food) and she offered to give me one to use in the future. Unfortunately it wouldn't go through customs, so I couldn't take it, but this was hands down one of the most memorable meals I've ever had in my life, and I hope it inspires more people to go and be as pleasantly blown away as I was! Thank you Cocomar again for a...
Read morePuerto Viejo is a tourist trap. Even though I like to support local business, I'm not in the age group which waits in line to be seated or be served meager portions at a high cost. I ordered the seafood platter at $13 and got 3 pinky shrimps, 3 sea shells, 5 mussels, 2 squid rings and 3 quarter sized fish filet dice. No pictures, I was upset. It was a meal for an 8 year old child. I saved the night out by feeding on my side order of fried plantains which I dipped in the coconut sauce that came with the seafood platter. The green salad was good. It came glazed in a passion fruit dressing. Local traditional drink known as "Hiel" was what I ordered to go with my dinner. It's made out of sugar cane, ginger. Truly refreshing. I was so unsatisfied with the seafood platter that I had to order a local traditional pastry known as "Patty" to calm my hunger. This pastry has ground beef inside which is spiced up and is kind of hot, but it's very tasty. Service was below average. WiFi password worked in spite of being told...
Read moreOrdered the chicken in Caribbean sauce, no picture, which if you’re familiar it’s basically brown stew chicken. It was really good. My husband’s family is Jamaican, he’s the only one (parents & siblings) not born there, and he took one bite and said “oh they legit” 🤣🤣. I got it with rice & beans and sweet plantain. The plate went back completely cleared.
We also ordered the Hiel, which was good. The ginger was strong but it was still really good.
The only thing I didn’t like were the bar stools since we sat at the counter. The “step rung” on the stool was low which offered little support for my leg and I’m not the tallest so it caused the seat to dig into the back of my thighs and made it extremely uncomfortable. I’d sat at a table if there was room. So I thugged it out.
Oh, I forgot to mention. When we went they didn’t have any electricity, still had gas to cook, and STILL made amazing food!! I’d def go back again if...
