This place has such a great idea! A great happy hour, and live entertainment every night. And iI did really enjoy the cocktails Which were strong and good, and the live entertainment was great.
And I am willing to acknowledge that maybe we had a once off , and I hate to complain especially while traveling, But the service was beyond horrendous.
Our waitress came up and I ordered water for my daughter and a slice of pizza for her and empanadas for me. I was promptly informed that although both items were on the menu neither was available.
The waitress left and I never saw her again and no water was bought for my daughter. Another waiter came over eventually and I ordered water again. After waiting about 10 minutes I finally went up to the bar to just get it myself and the bartender proceeded to be pretty rude to me when I indicated that I have been waiting for this. The poor service just continued, with just taking forever for any kind of service and when I asked our original waitress for the bill she nodded and then 15 minutes later I finally had to ask another person for the bill.
The icing on the cake, was that despite the fact that the menu stated that on Tuesdays kids eat free and I had a kids menu stating that kids eat free, they charged me for her meal and when I brought this to their attention was told oh that’s an old menu and I had to go to the manager to finally get it taken off the bill and even she didn’t seem that concerned about the fact that every single wait staff there just seem to not give a care about who they were serving.
As I said, it’s very unfortunate because the establishment is really neat, and they have a great idea, but The service is so lacking. I mean I really consider just getting up and walking out and not even paying my bill because nobody seem to give a flying F About me or the fact that I was there.
Charlie,
In response to your questions, I was there on Tuesday, at 5:30, I had to ask specifically for the children’s menu, as despite the fact that I clearly had a child with me, it was not given to me, and yes I ordered a burrito and added in Carnitas and guacamole. My friend who lives here even mentioned that the service is not your strong point - she said, the wait staff often gets distracted talking to the kitchen staff. The manager I spoke to was female. Thank you...
Read moreThis was the worst establishment I have ever encountered in my life. As a customer to be so disrespected by the worker then the owner is quite disappointing. I travel many times to peurto viejo and know the community well and this establishment left a bad taste in my mouth. The owner ask you to pay to use the restroom and unprofessional in his approach. As a professional myself you do not operate business in this manner. I will not return nor recommend any of my friends to come here.I will never come back to such a horrible place. I have purchased food and drinks many times before in your place. I came in May and stayed a month with a group and know the ins and outs of Puerto Viejo so this is not my first time. I dont need your lecture on public restroom rules and licensing. The racism I encountered in this place is beyond words. The worker approaches you and tells you I didn't buy water then that gives you the right to talk to me like I am a two year old child. Unacceptable. I just arrived not sure how you saw me three times. Do you tell your other customers to ask permission to use the bathroom? In life its a way you approach and speak to people. Your approach was rude, intimidating and aggressive. I will not let any person speak to me in that manner. As a person that owns a business you need to do some training on how to speak to customers. I will never come to this disgusting place. You speak to me like I was a drunk person off the street. How dare you? I am not a woman you think you can abuse verbally then you think I dont have a voice to speak my words. I have plenty to spend and well established person who supports the community all the time. Never judge a book by its cover. My money will go to those that treat the customer with respect and dignity. You have no class and professionalism. If you think I will step foot nor recommend my future friends to come to your place then you are sadly mistaken. I travel all around the world and a successful person. I have never been treated in such a manner of poor quality and class. I will not let your negativity ruin my vacation. I just now know where to stay...
Read moreOrdered 2 empanadas and a fresh juice. Food was good. Saved 1 empanada for breakfast the next day, they were bigger than I expected. The service was a mess, I think this place is too busy for its own good. I had a tough time finding my server to order and then later I needed a knife because the empanadas were too hot to open with my bare hands, but it took a while for any staff to come near enough the table to ask and then I waited a few minutes until he came back with one. The staff clearly need more help and/or better organization.
My favorite part was the entertainment! It started with a cover band of many genres from hard rock to pop to punk to alternative to 80s and more. Then a circus style show! Maybe the best fire twirler I've seen since I was 17... Growing up in pre-professional dance, I've realized my standards are quite high. The dance and twirling in the cirque du soleil show I saw last year bored me, the show at hot rocks did not!
A lot of it was seemingly dumb stuff like the one guy on a unicycle spinning a basketball on a stick balanced on his face while juggling 4 bowling pins. But that's SKILL. Another girl twirled hula hoops and started with 1 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 7! I was waiting for the next otherwise ridiculous thing - that's creativity to dance with 7 hula hoops in a butterfly formation!
The dance lessons intermission wasn't much learning with instructions as it was follow the leader. I learn best by copying the instructor, so it worked for me. Knowing Spanish also helps, especially right, left, and turn (derecha, izquierda, vuelta). But there were many people messing up so don't be scared to join,...
