not sure what’s almost 5* about this place? it was recommended by a couple we met few days ago, then we overheard the snorkeling tour boat captain mentioned it. we arrived for lunch around 12pm, after our morning activities. there’s couple of empty tables for us to pick. it seems there’s only 1 waitress and 1 busboy for a packed restaurant. we ordered Caribbean ribs and fried whole fish, and a fish ceviche, 2 coca cola. drinks came pretty fast with 2 glasses of ice, but the food was really slow, we’re almost done with our drinks (ice all melted) before our ribs and fish arrived, no ceviche. then we realized the fish had the same Caribbean sauce as the ribs , so the 2 dishes basically taste the same. we are halfway done with the 2 courses and still didn’t get ceviche. it’s hard to catch the waitress attention to finally asked about our ceviche. another 5 min before we got ‘shrimp’ ceviche, we didn’t want to wait any longer so didn’t say anything. when we finished our meal, we saw a neighboring table had a drink that looks like iced coffee, tried to order it and was told it’s iced cocoa. that was another 10min to get that drink. overall the food was good, nothing spectacular, but the services are not there. luckily we didn’t have anything else scheduled or we would have been late, or...
Read moreI have been coming to this establishment for over 2yrs and it just gotten worse and worse..the food has no seasoning and the service is horrible and disrespectful but after watching and walking by the place over the weekend I realize why, they do not cater for their own culture they only want tourists of Caucasian , not tourists or locals of color... it's shameful how they treat people of their own color there...DO NOT GO TO THESE COMMERCIALIZED establishments in this area .. if your of color and really know the taste of food...they have made the small rundown bowls smaller but charge high price, BECAREFUL of buying snapper because they highly over charge , your paying almost 50us for a snapper dinner that normally costs 10 to 20 dollars, the service is rude and long waits..but they really fast to get that $$ when your done, I was there and they didn't even offer water .. I am ashamed of this place but I realized when someone people don't care about culture and people anymore this is what happens and the hurtful thing is they are not the only one...Shame on you for turning your backs on the people that made you successful. I wish I could give a...
Read moreGood atmosphere and friendly service. Best fried plantains I've had this trip (a favourite dish of mine); paired well with some delicious refried beans and guac.
I had the chicken in mushroom sauce. The chicken was a bit tough and overcooked, but the sauce was quite good. Definitely a rich sauce, and there's a lot of it, so needs to be paired with rice. I ordered French fries with mine (which were crsipy and tasty), but had to order a side of rice (arrived promptly) to mop up the sauce.
My girlfriend ordered the chicken in Carribean sauce. Her chicken was cooked well, and the meal was tasty, although nothing too special. A familiar bbq taste. Maybe the seafood is a better choice here, which is understandable.
If you're sitting upstairs, the bathroom situation is a bit iffy. Not much privacy for the men (think western saloon style half-door with a toilet right behind it, immediately adjacent to the dining area) and you have to go downstairs to wash your hands (upstairs sink did not work).
4 stars are for the delicious appetizers, very friendly service (and quick considering there was only one server upstairs), and a tasteful,...
