I did the one day Pacuare rafting. This company's organisation is fantastic: pickups from multiple locations; drop off in a different location from where you start (great way to get around without wasting a day just traveling); decent food for breakfast and lunch; excellent briefing en route. I left my towel behind and Miguel very kindly dropped it off at my hotel on his next trip the following day. Thank you! The experience itself wasn't the exciting adrenaline rush I had been hoping for: I didn't once feel I was about to be thrown overboard. But that's not really the company's problem - it's between me and the river, which may have been lower than a full-throttle experience needs. The reason for only giving three stars is that I'm sure this would have been a lot more fun and felt less like a chore if we'd had a different guide. Ours, Ronald, was unpleasant, rude and constantly critical. Three of the four of us had never white water rafted before but he behaved as if we should know what we were doing and had developed the muscles and muscle-memory associated with the sport. He constantly told us we were bad paddlers but never told us if one or more of us ever got it right. One of the group refused to be a team player and just paddled at his own, varying, pace, stopping when he wanted, not when he was told. Ronald never said a word to him, even though he spoke the language, he just blamed the rest of us for not keeping in time. Then, a few minutes before we finished, he gave us another lecture telling us how bad we were and that 'rafting techniques are the same all over the world' as if we'd all done it elsewhere and would be doing it again. This was a one-off experience which he completely ruined for me. I hope Exploradores reads this...

Did the one day Rio Pacuare rafting trip and can't recommend it highly enough.
Booking was easy, collection from the hotel was perfect and the rafting itself was just awesome.
When you arrive at the Exploradores centre there's a breakfast laid on for you before storing your belongings in very secure lockers and heading to the start point. On the journey to the start point all the safety instructions are given so that you're ready to go when you get to the river.
When we arrived our guide (Palasio) got us fitted with our safety equipment and explained everything once again before we set off.
The first hundred metres are calm and give you chance to practice technique and get used to the raft - then you get to the first set of rapids and the fun starts....and it doesn't stop until 3 hours and 18 miles later.
The rapids are a combination of Class III and Class IV - and it's real adrenalin pumping stuff. Palasio was fantastic - he guided us safely through every set of rapids and gave clear instructions throughout.
During the trip there are a couple of gorges where then water is calm and you can jump in the river for a swim - it is picture perfect.
We stopped halfway for a quick break - which gave you chance to try different positions on the raft.
When the trip ended there was a lunch waiting for us and showers and changing cubicles to give us chance to get comfortable.
We were heading to a different resort afterwards and, despite a small hitch, that transfer worked well too.
All in all a...
Read moreFirst I’ll start by saying the Pacuare River is absolutely amazing and beautiful and is definitely worth a rafting trip. We had a wonderful experience rafting down Pacuare and in terms of safety and equipment everything seemed top notch with the company. The only factor that had a negative impact on our tour was the guides. A guide in another raft which was beside our raft for the whole trip down the river was extremely obnoxious and annoying. He kept splashing all the people in our raft non stop with his paddle on purpose. I understand a few times as a joke but he did not stop splashing us and it had a negative impact on our trip. In addition, this guide was clowning around and trying to make jokes which were immature and offensive to some people. There seemed to be a lot of personal socializing between some guides which wouldn’t normally bother me. However, with the addition of the splashing and immature jokes that a teenager would make it left a bit of a damper on our tour. This made us question if we would have had a perfect experience had we chosen another company. Exploradores Outdoor offers competitive pricing, but we can only wonder if we went with another company, if it would have been more professional. Other than this everything was wonderful and we are grateful we got to raft down the...
