La casita de Monli Bar Restaurante — Restaurant in Cahuita

Unfortunately, we feel obliged to write this recension, which we normally never do. On Tuesday, the 20th of August, my girlfriend and I came to eat in your restaurant. On that day we ordered the Caribbean Soup with seafood as well as the Caribbean Octopus, which we shared between the two of us. Initially, we found it to be very tasty and we sincerely enjoyed our dinner at your place.

However, the next morning (21th of August) both of us got awakened by a feeling of sickness and nausea. My girlfriend vomited several times during that day and I personally had fever. Even two days after our dinner, until the 22nd of August, we showed clear signs of food poisoning.

While trying to find the cause for our sickness, we quickly came to the conclusion that this must come from the dinner at your place, since we only had cereals for breakfast on the 20th of August, as we skipped lunch.

For an allegedly two star Michelin restaurant, which we later found out is not the case, this is absolutely not acceptable. So do not be fooled, it is NOT a 2-star restaurant, as the advertisement of the restaurant is very misleading! Nevertheless, for any gastronomic establishment, it is unacceptable that something like this happens. Especially, if you advertise your restaurant with “Local Fresh Seafood & Fish”. I am sure that this does not happen often, but in that case, an apology would be far more than appropriate.

We would have come to the restaurant personally, in order to discuss what happened with our dinner, but unfortunately we left yesterday morning (21th of August) to San José. Hence, you can surely imagine how inconvenient the situation was for us.

We tried to contact the restaurant via email before writing any recension, but we didn’t get any response, which is very disappointing. That is not how you expect customers to be treated.

So our personal recommendation: DO NOT BE FOOLED, it is a normal restaurant, with high and inappropriate prices, that is not necessarily...

During our visit to Puerto Viejo we sort out recommendations for authentic local cuisine. Several restaurants were recommended, but it seemed like the universe had something even better in store for us. All of the other recommended restaurants were closed the day we had gone out to dinner. So we asked a local vendor to see if she could recommend anywhere She sure did and the entire experience surpassed our expectations. When we reached La Casita de Monli it was enchanting. We were a large group, and as soon as the appetizers and cocktails started to come out we knew we were in for a very special dinner. Everything was exquisite. In fact, the food was so delicious, and the service was impeccable, along with meeting the owner, who is kind and attentive., we decided to go back. It wasn’t until our second visit that I realized we were dining at a two star Michelin rated restaurant! I was not surprised, but only ecstatic for the owners who put their heart and soul into that restaurant. Can’t recommend it enough. Don’t leave Puerto Viejo without experiencing La Casita de Monli. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy our experience today. We were offered a seat in middle of the floor. There was no light above our table, only a candle and small table light - we could not see the food well and appreciate it visually.

Starters (ceviche) arrived before the drinks. Ceviche was okey, but no outstanding.

The restaurant staff was taking and putting back chairs from our table, without asking us or letting us know what is happening. They were taking the chairs to accommodate guests at other tables.

The main course arrived before plates from starters were taken from our table.

The mains were disappointg. Red snapper had rubbery texture. Tuna was served near raw. Waiter didn't ask us how we wanted tuna to be prepared, rather suggested that serving it near raw /blue is the only way this dish is prepared.

Staff asked if we enjoyed the dinner and we shared how we felt about the food. The red snapper was taken off the bill.
