Was excited to go here to try some rice bowls as after a month in Costa Rica I was bored with the same tipico dishes. At 5pm the place was busy and when we asked the server if there was room he said no without looking inside, but we saw a few empty tables and then he said there was space. It was very loud inside and the music was only playing one song on repeat, sounds like a joke but annoying. I ordered an iced coffee but was served a hot one. Our rice bowls were so salty I couldn’t finish mine, they tasted like they had been prepared from frozen and doused in a lot of sauces. When we were going up to pay for the meal, our server walked past us and bumped into my friend in a way that seemed intentional.. then said “bye” to me in a half hearted way as if it was an after thought. I’m disappointed in the service and food at this place, but the sunset was nice. Definitely wouldn’t go here again though. Edit: friend had food poisoning throughout the night after eating here. He ate chicken on the rice bowl so it must have been that. I...
Read moreThe food was good. It's a little pricey for what it is. And don't get the bean dip with chips. Maybe we got a bad batch, but it was not good. The burrito, and steak and cheese sandwich were very good. Pina colada was ok. It's right on the beach so you can bring your gear to take a dip. The seating outside could be better organized, but it's workable. And because it's on the beach, you might see some crabs too! Their Saturday fire show is a lot of fun. Service is good, but very much in keeping with the pura vida lifestyle. Don't expect to be checked on frequently or get everything you need at once. The atmosphere is wonderful. The staff is super nice and friendly. There are a couple of spots to take photos, too. There are a couple of stores right around the corner for you to dip out and do some shopping and an ice cream place too with amazing flavors. Huge lot where you can park right next to it. It's a great place, day or night. They play great chill music and not so loud that you can't have a conversation, so that was...
Read moreOur first cocktail on the beach after our arrival in Puerto Viejo was at piratas, and we went back almost every day after that! The location is perfect as it's on the beach: holiday vibes at their must. Great spot to watch the sunset whilst having a drink - they very often have live bands and their cocktails are simply delicious with their exotic taste and frozen texture. My favourite was the piña colada but with cacique (local liquor). The local cocktail called coco loco is delicious too and easy to drink. My boyfriend's favourite was the funky monkey and I have to admit I've taken more than one sip every time he ordered it! The passion fruit mojito is also delicious. Great spot also to hang during the day and do some snorkelling whilst enjoying a custom made smoothie! Food-wise, we tried their bruschettas, guacamole, chicken tacos and big jerk burrito and everything was good. Plus the staff is friendly and they have good WiFi connexion. We highly...
