Lola Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Nosara

The space is nice and the look of the food is also nice. But I feel the environment and branding is really all they have going for them.

My fiend and I walked in and seated ourselves. About 2 minutes after we chose our spot, a waiter asked us “can you sit over here please” and re directed us to another 2 person table. I understand that bigger tables are for more people... and what I suggest is having a sign at the front entrance that asks people to wait at the door until someone places them. That way there wouldn’t be any confusion and misdirections.

The next thing is we were served by 3 different people which was really confusing. And the first server was a woman that didn’t once smile or say anything other than ask us what we desired as beverages. She seemed almost angry and was very unwelcoming.

Once someone finally took our food order, they brought one of us the wrong meal. We had to wait an extra 30 mins for them to make her meal again.

The food was NOT good.. which is frustrating because we had waited so long and online there are raving reviews apparently.

The frittata was soaked in oil.. after I ate it I felt so heavy and sick to my stomach. My friends toast, avocado and eggs was dry and bland.

This restaurant needs more structure, waiters should have their specific tables/seating areas, they should write down what the clients are ordering to assure they get the order correct. And someone should be at the door ready to seat people that arrive.

The food here is good but I'm surprised to not see more negative reviews on the staff. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day but considering they work in hospitality, it might be a good idea to be more hospitable. We were told a table would be free in 10 minutes, that took over 30 mins. We then sat down and had to wait another 20 before anyone came over to take an order (having flagged them down). Food came out really quick and was presented really well. Tasted good although we we needed an extra knife of which we asked for but it never came. A simple check of the table 5 mins after delivering the food would solve this problem but they weren't interested. A small child dropped a plate on the table next to us which smashed. The wait staff looked over and rolled their eyes whilst watching us help pick it up. Finally the bill came out and we had our order and 3 other meals and drinks from someone else's added on. We informed the staff of which they gave no apology and walked off. Then without any words spoken, just came and dropped the correct bill on the table. Having read some of the middling to negative service reviews we arrived, undaunted - as they were more than counterbalanced by opinions of the menu offerings… boy were we pleasantly surprised! It seems that Destiny has taken those negative perspectives and experiences (which were not unanimous by any means, really) and really stepped their game up. We experienced prompt seating, friendly service, excellent suggestions, friendly banter, attentive well-timed check-ins, and immediate responsiveness - they staff did a great job! And the food? Outstanding. Each dish (there were many ordered for our large group) was beautifully, painstakingly prepared, fantastic and elevated. From the wide selection of beverages, to the eclectic and broad menu options ordered, everything was perfect - surprising us with the flavour combinations, textural counterpoints, presentation and overall experience.
