WOW. We couldn't believe our luck in stopping here. It's easy to want to pass this place up, as we had a hard time figuring out where to actually park and enter, and when you walk up it's not much to look at. If you are heading up the hill to the butterfly place, it's a very sharp left to the parking lot which is really just their front yard I think. We found it easier to drive further up and park, and walk down. Doing that, it was obvious where to enter, and there are plenty of signs welcoming you to the back. And are we glad we kept at it, because every step I took around the corner and into the place I thought wow wow wow! It opens up to this cozy, clean patio with great views even when it's cloudy and rainy. The birdwatching here was fantastic! The food was among the best I've ever had. Really. The burrito extreme was unique and incredibly flavorful, like nothing I've ever had. Chicken, rice, salsa, and whatever else they put in it truly should be bragged about, it's a hit of a recipe. The mint lemonade was light and refreshing and perfect. My husband had the beef quesadilla and said it was great. Kids split a burger con papas and wow were the papas good. Perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and buttery smooth on the inside. We finished it off with a chocolate shake for the kids, which came with thick homemade whipped cream; a brownie with ice cream that was simply incredible; and cafe con leche which let me just say: chase the brownie+ice cream with the cafe con leche and prepare for taste bud bliss. The owners keep the place really clean, including the bathrooms. The prices can't be beat IMO, for the quality, amount of food, atmosphere, the price is outstanding. If you are in the area, make the drive here. You will be so...

I'm from California. I've had burritos across Los Angeles and San Francisco -- the kind of places that feature on lists of the world's best burrito spots. La Ventanita puts them all to shame. Seriously! The meats are perfectly tender and flavorful, the tortilla is expertly toasted, the ingredients are properly proportioned, and the hot sauce served on the side gives the whole thing an awesome kick. I never expected to find a burrito this good in the middle of the Costa Rica rainforest, but it's for real!
They also do great nachos, quesadillas, and milkshakes, and everything is very affordable. The staff is small and there are only a few tables, so it can be crowded and take a while to get your food. But it's so, so...
Read moreAfter waiting for three days, first on sunday since they ran out of ingredients and then it was closed on tuesday,. We finally got a chance to eat here on our last day in the area.
Restaurant is on a uphill in El Castillo village. Views are great with lake and volcano. It is owned by Kelly, an american but you won't notice that while eating food there since taste is typical Costa Rican. The prices were really affordable and made us realize how much we overpaid for food at other places. Portion size was really big. One burrito is enough for one person as a one meal. We also had milkshakes which were amazing too.
Restaurant deserves a the.good reviews it is getting. We would love to come here again, this time multiple times if we visit...
