Had the worst, most expensive experience here tonight. Paid $90 for a kids spaghetti, side of French fries, Caesar salad with salmon, two glasses of wine and a kids gelato. The problem began when we walked into a mainly empty restaurant on a Sunday night. The hostess crammed my four year old daughter and myself into a tiny two person table when there were PLENTY of empty tables in the restaurant. I asked for a bigger table but she said, “this table is sufficient” and said “it’s not small” when I was squashed against the wall. When our food came there wasn’t even enough room on the table for it, the wait staff was wonderful but never suggested we move to a bigger table. I spoke to the manager at the end of the night and said look, this is an expensive restaurant (more than Beverly Hills) and the hostess wouldn’t give me a bigger table. At this point there was only one other party in the restaurant. He agreed that this was terrible service but only offered a bigger table “the next time” ... there’s not going to be a next time! The food wasn’t good enough to justify $20 for a salmon Caesar and the wine list was so small, your only choices are terrible wine for cheap or decent wine for major $. We were constantly rushed through our courses, I actually had to say to the waiter that I eat my food slower than my daughter so they would give us space. Any decent place in the US would take something off your bill or offer reparations in another way, but not this place. I refused to pay the 10% “servicio” on the bill for all the employees and changed it to the tip only for the waiter, writing “I do not want to pay for bad service” on the bill. Considering reporting this place to my credit card company because it was such an awful experience. Avoid this place! There’s other good restaurants in the neighborhood, don’t pay their rent. Photo of my daughter crammed next to me and the huge empty table next to us.

We went to the restaurant because we were feeling like pasta for lunch. Located in a very fancy “Avenida” near San Jose, this restaurant has an authentic Italian mood. The hostess is very welcoming as also the waitresses. Not a very large menu, just a handful of entrées, insalate, pasta, and mains. We went for 4 starters as follows: calamari: very good, Prosciutto: very good, beef Carpaccio: very good and octopus on the grill: not so good, a little bit hard and not so flavorful. For the mains, we ordered a couple of Carbonaras and a couple of Bolognesa. All good. *Carbonara may have a sauce based on cream. Not the original moistured only by yolks. Ask for warm bread with butter to start! Recommended but just a little bit pricey.

Let me explain my review here in detail. I have spent a bit over 10 years tasting Italian restaurants in Costa rica. This is, if not the best carbonara I have tasted, or at least, the best one so far. I asked how they make it and they answered what I was asking for in the proper Italian manner. Very different from restaurants like olive garden that, while good, are not authentic Italian food. More over, the quality, the ingredients. If you love real, Italian food, this is the place to go. I will continue evaluating other real Italian cuisine, but Terrazza Toscana has earned my review and vote. The atmosphere was also beautiful along with the high quality attention to details. So expect above and beyond service.

I think the people that haven't experienced food or don't understand it well tend to like Italian restaurants more than other cuisines. They also tend to mistake good food with being pretentious and think highly of a restaurant because it's pretentious. This place is a perfect example of a trap for these kind of people. Don't go here. The food is disappointing, it's overpriced, and the attention is not amazing. First, they gave us some bread, which was tough as a rock and bland. We asked for a risotto, it wasn't seasoned properly and it was overcooked. It was also supposed to have seafood in it. I don't know if two shrimps and a sprinkle of mussels make it a seafood risotto, highly doubt it. I also had some pasta, it was overcooked. Had some Panna Cotta, it was bland. Any Italian would be disappointed. Do yourself a favor and drive 5 more minutes...

I had such high expectations for this place but it fell very short. I came as a solo diner, not the only one in a fairly empty restaurant. The food was mediocre however the service was even worse. I had to ask 3x for water meanwhile every table around me had some and had been refilled numerous times. I received my wine and appetizer before getting a drop of water. I also noticed that every table around me had bread however I was never offered any even though I ordered 2 courses. I had to ask for bread as well. When my entree finally came I was further disappointed. The spaghetti bolognese had little to no flavor and the pasta was drenched in sauce. The best part of this experience was the stuffed figs, they were delish. Outside of that I seemed to be a bother...
