The Capital Grille — Restaurant in San Rafael

I’m a big fan of capital grill, I’ve been to at least 20 different locations. This one is actually a bit more expensive than the others, though the quality is not near the same. I’ve been to this one twice and twice have they overcooked one of our steaks and then offer a dessert for the inconvience. This time they blamed it on the steak, said because it was dry aged they couldn’t cook medium rare. Huh? I’ve eaten 50+ dry aged steaks in my life and most if not all were cooked to a perfect medium rare. This steak was medium well most of the way through but rare in the very center (half inch center) They took it back and tried again with another steak and now the steak was medium well again but the center was thicker (1inch center) and still rare. Obviously they have the grill too hot as it’s cooking the edges too fast. I came here to eat steak, its the main event. If it comes out cooked wrong then it ruins the meal as now I’m waiting drinking my wine while my partner is enjoying their meal. Don’t offer a free dessert, you messed up the steak,...

I went to The Capital Grille for my birthday and it did not disappoint. The staff, service, food, and ambiance is amazing.

They greeted us with such warmth. Service started right away and was impecable. The food was really delicious. The lobster cakes, caesar salad, and truffle fries are a must order. I got the wagyu and it was super flavorful and tender. Hubby enjoyed his fish dish and the french onion soup. The coconut custard tart is incredible and one of the best desserts we've ever tasted.

It is very expensive but I thought it was worth it for the experience, quality of food and portion sizes.

I do wish they offered free bread, as it is a fine dining restaurant. But they did give me a smaller version of their cheesecake for my birthday and a handwritten birthday card, which I thought was a very nice touch.
