THE Venue for Live Music in a concert, LISTENING atmosphere. Nice ambiance, large space. Good sightlines, excellent sound and lighting. Excellent booking of all types of music, most every nite., and special musical events Music school concerts most rewarding Nice balcony tables, very private, esp at front or center. 2 bars. House Band Tortugas hits the classic rock n roll spot, w good well rendered covers and some original music. Axe player has the chops. The Floyd Cover Band is a must see if you need a fix!. Very nice staff doing a tough job. Always kindly treated. Bartenders know their stuff. Reception always polite and helpfull to me. Cant speak to the food, looks good, big portions, but i eat beforehand. Club food, by necessity, never inexpensive, but, where is? EASY to get to from east or west, just off Rt27. Limited parking, w attentive minders, pay lot down the street when full. Safe location, secure parking. Choice of nearby restaurants for quiet dinner ! I went there this evening assuming that this place plays jazz. Nothing could be further from my mind. We paid around US$40 for two to get in. The front desk made no indication of the actual program. The place was about 90% empty. One old guy with his guitar was on stage singing songs in Spanish. He was quite skillful and had a good voice. But it was not jazz, there was no variation in his technique for the entire evening. He did not even use another instrument, electronic or otherwise. Some middle aged people were singing along in Spanish with his songs, and I had never heard a single one before. We bought a drink and did the journey by Uber. Based on this experience, it was not what I expected and my wife and I left early. They at least need to put out a program indicating that they are not playing jazz. We...

One of the greatest places to hear live music in all of Costa Rica, at extremely low prices (normally $7-$10 entrance fee) and their drink and food prices are also very very reasonable. I have been living here for over 25 years, and the Jazz Cafe is one of the reasons why i love Costa Rica.
