La Dolce Vita is an OKAY pizza place. If you want decent pizza, it’s a solid go-to. But it presents itself as some fancy gourmet amazing Italian food place and this, it is not. We ordered the caprese salad to start. The mozzarella was tough and inconsistently sliced, the tomatoes were big beefsteak tomatoes (like the ones you use for burgers, so kinda mealy and not flavorful), there were literally three sprigs of basil...and that’s it. No rich olive oil. No balsamic reduction. Just a bunch of badly sliced cheese and tomato on a plate. On the table was placed with great flourish a bottle of the lightest tasting olive oil and some cooking-grade balsamic vinegar. Needless to say, the salad was a bust. We ordered 2 pizzas, a margherita and a mushroom and chorizo. The margherita was just a plain pizza. No slices of mozzarella, no basil. If they had just called it a cheese pizza, I would have said it’s a pretty good cheese pizza. The mushroom and chorizo got a thumbs up so take that as you like. The service was lovely, very friendly and sweet as has been the case everywhere we have been in this beautiful country. But the food (at least what I had) at this...
Read moreTL;DR - cold service, overcooked and then undercooked meat, mediocre pasta, disinterest in correcting issues. Look somewhere else - so many good places around.
We were very surprised to have such a poor experience given some of the reviews. From the start we felt unwelcome, they seemed disinterested in hosting our group of 8(4 adults and 4 kids, but they were all half asleep). We were told “no” so we offered to separate.
My wife and I ordered the fettuccini bolognese and the beef tenderloin (medium). The food arrived eventually, the bolognese was ok (my 4 year old enjoyed it a lot) but mostly sauce and noodle.
The tenderloin was well done. It was sent back politely and within 7-8 minutes we received something that kind of resembled a tenderloin, fatty, chopped up and almost completely raw. The response from the manager was basically a shrug and an offer to try again. We left.
Everywhere else local has been a delight, based on our experience maybe look somewhere else if you are considering...
Read moreI’ve lived in El Coco almost three years now and I frequent this restaurant more than any other. The food and service is incredible! I’d go as far to say that the Italian food at La Dolce Vita is better than anything I’ve eaten in Italy in my various visits to the country.
This restaurant is owned and operated by a wonderful Italian family and even Nona is involved with making the pasta.
If you’ve only got one night (or a lifetime like me) in El Coco, you should eat at La Dolce Vita. You’ll be thankful you did.
