Hidden Gem in Coco!
Guayoyo is a charming little café tucked into a strip mall just off the main road in Coco — an easy walk from tons of Airbnbs and vacation condos. Don’t let the simple exterior fool you — inside, it’s warm, welcoming, and packed with personality.
They’ve got three well-designed menus: one for fresh-pressed juices, one for delicious bites, and one for their specialty coffee drinks — all thoughtfully presented in both English and Spanish. I was especially excited to see golden milk and a flat white on the list — not always easy to find in small beach towns!
Heads up: they only serve espresso-based drinks in one size, which seems to be a single shot in a 12 oz to-go cup. (Honestly, the owner could make more $$ and coffee lovers would rejoice if they offered larger sizes or double shots.)
I just popped in for a morning cup, but the reviews are glowing about their breakfast — and I’m definitely going back to try it. Coco’s got a small but growing café scene, and I’m hoping to try all three during my stay: this one, the café on the main strip, and another one called Java’s just down the road in another little strip mall.

Read more¡Muy delicioso! This coffee spot is a great way to start your day. We keep coming back here because the drinks and food are so tasty. There is free parking here and the atmosphere inside is super hip, cool and inviting.
Drink-wise we have tried: the Americano - full of flavor and smooth, not acidic at all; Monkey Head - creamy, peanut buttery with sweet banana; Iced Golden Milk - creamy, with fresh ginger and turmeric, it was a perfect balance of creamy sweet with spicy.
Food-wise we tried: Go Green Cachapa - super refreshing and the cachapa was slightly sweet and very delightful; Chicken Avo Cachapa - shredded chicken was cooked perfectly and the spices were brilliant, totally satisfying; Ham and Cheese Croissant - flakey croissant, we added fresh tomato to this sandwich and it tasted so good; Tipico Hearty Plate with Arepa - presentation was exquisite, eggs were scrambled with tomatoes and herbs, gallo pinto was full of flavor, fried cheese browned on both sides, fresh avocado sliced, arepa was slightly sweet, hearty and fried to perfection.
We will definitely be back to try more. We love the Costa Rican - Venezuelan fusion that is absolutely genius! Five...

The guayoyo coffee was bitter. The smoothies were not blended well and therefore hard to drink through the regular sized straw (perhaps a boba size straw would fix that). The chicken avocado arepa was rather flavorless. Thankfully they had a hot sauce that helped, but I would say food should not NEED sauce to have flavor. The chai latte was meh. They were out of all their fresh juices but one by 11:30 am. Wouldn't be as disappointed by that if they closed at like 1 or 2 pm, but they're open till 5 pm.
I see with other poor reviews the manager often replies defensively. On the one hand, good, defend your staff. Not enough managers do these days. On the other hand, I hope this defensiveness isn't preventing self reflection. The manager has said in review replies to tell the staff about any issues for them to help or fix. Unfortunately the staff was so unwelcoming we didn't even want to bother telling them. We preferred to just leave without finishing.
As my husband said, "why is she acting like I stole her...
