Rip off artists here...STAY AWAY!! Over charged on every item we ordered and when we calculated the amount we should have been charged including CR tax amd gratuity the bill should have been $40.59 but bill came to over $47. When I looked at my bank transactions, $72.99 was charged. The scam is that they show you USD prices but when you pay with credit card or debit you are not told that they enter the price in colones. When we called to try to rectify the issue, the manager tried to say we were aware of how they charged us...why would we know that they were charging us on colones when the menu and bill we received when going to pay for our meal all came in USD prices? I told her that they are misleading customers and that as a business serving mostly travelers/foreigners it is their responsibility to make clear that although the menu quotes USD prices and the bill shows USD prices, customers will pay in colones when using debit or credit. Looking back at other reviews, this has been going on for a while as Alex. L provided a review with the same issue. Manager also tried to send a.picture of a receipt that we've never seen saying that that proves we knew that over 26000 colones was being charged when the bill we were given was in hand writing ...for $47 USD! Lesson learned, not everything is what it seems and you can't trust everyone. Don't want to always be second guessing businesses as some are actually trying to make an honest living. Now, we will be more cautious. Lastly, for someone who.says they prefer to work things out and talk things through, the manager did nothing but make excuses, continue to be dishonest, and talked over us the entire time. Don't want anyone else who comes here on a budget to be taken advantage of with your hard...
Read moreWe stayed at the Iguana Surf camp (attached to Breakfast Grinds) for a week- hung out and ate most of our meals here. Paula and Luke, the owners, are amazing. They made us feel like family and that we had been welcomed into their lives for the week, as did the other waitresses Cami and Sophia.
Everything is made fresh and everything is delicious and good quality. My husband and oldest son loved the burgers and fries; my younger kids loved the chicken quesadillas, milkshakes and smoothies. I tried something different from the menu every day and it was all delicious.
The coffee is perfect and my favorite part of the trip was drinking coffee here and watching the early morning surfers. (The restaurant is open air- so great view of the beach across the street).
When we ordered food and drinks to take to the beach, everyone around us asked where we got the food because it smelled/looked so good.
A machaca burrito with eggs and avocado after morning surfer lessons is a good way to...
Read moreThis review is LONG overdue. We took a trip to C.R. in 2016 and I would be remiss if I did not pay my dues to Breakfast Grinds, one of our mainstays in Tamarindo. Proprietors Paula and Luke serve delicious food, at a good price, in a relaxed atmosphere... all overlooking the streets of Tamarindo and the beach. Their friendly demeanor and excellent coffee were a Godsend in the morning. Luke, an expat', is a great store of knowledge. He arrived in the area years ago, following the waves, way before things became touristy and so western. He has great stories and can steer you towards things that still have an indigenous air. Paula is simply a dear and she and Luke will gladly give you the time if it is available.
All in all Breakfast Grinds is a must, but get there early as they only serve breakfast and lunch... Then it is home to the kids and the...
