We happened upon Shaka Food on our way into Tamarindo and I am so happy we did! The food was amazing and the family that runs it was so kind and welcoming. As a person who has to eat gluten-free, finding food while traveling can be challenging, especially in areas where "gluten-free" is less common or known about. Issues with cross contamination are common and I often end up eating the same thing day after day. None of this was the case at Shaka! Fantastically clean and flavorful food at this family-owned cafe. Offerings include Venezeulan arepas in delightful colors (beet, carrot, and classic), pad thai, and lasagna (meat & veggie), real deal cold brew, and plenty of choice for the vegan and/or gluten-free. And we haven't even arrived at the cakes yet (amazing and baked in-house)!

This place is truly fantastic. We visited Shaka food 3 times when visiting Tamarindo. It is a completely family run restaurant, serving quality food at a great price. The arepas are wonderful and flavorful and there are many vegitarian and gluten free options on the menu.
