Villa Apolon is lovely hotel though being on the edge of town the bar and restaurant were under used. The restaurant terrace overlooks the sea. Really beautiful setting. Staff very helpful and lovely. ||The facilities are let down by breakfast - not enough choice. Fresh fruit was good but only cornflakes, no muesli. Then it is just bread or croissant and the cooked breakfast is basically an omelette. Also the coffees were average. Though nicely presented. in a great setting outdoors please upgrade breakfast - give your guests the breakfast menu to choose from instead of just reciting it. If breakfast improved then we would give this lovely hotel a 5 star rating. Perhaps they need to promote themselves a bit more to get restaurant and bar business. They had a bar and restaurant inside but only saw it being used twice in a 3 day stay. ||We chose to stay in Stari Grad not Hvar due to hotel shortages but were so pleased we did. Hvar is glitzier and noisier but without authenticity. Stari Grad is a lovely town on the sea with lots of local people enjoying the life there and croatian tourists. Great choice of bars and restaurants with excellent food. We hired bikes for a day and cycled across the plain of vineyards watching grapes being picked by all the families who owned the plots. Also we swam at the town beach round by the Ermitage restaurant and did a bit of hiking. Recommend the...

Read moreVilla Apolon was one of the highlights of our trip to Croatia. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming from check in to check out including the wait staff, concierge, and even owner. Though not in Hvar town, it is in the quieter older town of Stari Grad, a 15 minute drive to Hvar. Parking was a little tricky to figure out, as the hotel is on a pedestrian street, but street parking was ample all day and night. We were greeted with a welcome coffee while checked in, with a great view of the harbor and yachts. We arrived early so our room wasn't ready, and they were incredibly apologetic and held our bags while we explored the town. You don't have to deal with yelling spring break crowds here which was nice. The wifi and air conditioning were excellent. The town is even a bit more charming than Hvar, though has less of a restaurant and bar scene, so heading over to Hvar is a good option. They also charter trips to the nearby excellent Tomic winery. The room was very modern and clean, and fairly large. A perfect place to stay while exploring the island if you don't want to be kept up until 4am from the...
