Blue Doors Restaurant — Restaurant in Grad Stari Grad

We spent 11 nights as a family in Stari Grad/Hvar and visited many restaurants, and I can confirm that the staff at Blue Doors were by far the rudest and most arrogant on the island.

We had booked a table through the online portal more than 30hours in advance, just to walk up to the door and be told that “the restaurant did not have time to accept the request” and that our reservation was “null” because we “booked it too late”… except other people were getting in with reservations?

That in itself would be enough to put a damper on the night, but a waiter with grey hair then proceeded to arrogantly mansplain reservations to my younger sister.

“Hi I think we have a reservation here tonight” was immediately met with a scoff and an extremely rude “do you THINK you have a reservation or do you KNOW you have a reservation with us?”

The restaurant looks nice and the pictures look good which is what drew us in in the first place, but after two waiters were extremely arrogant and rude to my younger sister (and didn’t have time to confirm a booking after 30 hours) I can say that there are great places to go with much friendlier staff and less “stuck up” vibes on the island.

We weren't that hungry, so the two of us shared the 0,5 kg squid - well, it's beyond any description how wonderful it was made and matched with the homemade olive oil and rustical bread, the meal was complete. I was willing to get the black risotto, but at first I wasn't sure if the restaurant was worth ordering two dishes, now I live with a huge regret of not tasting it. We were short in time, that's why after the squid I didn't order it, but at least the next time we arrive to Croatia, we'll have a great excuse to travel there. We also wanted to try the pašticada - unfortunately for us, they run out of it and the preparation process takes a few days of making - if you want it the real way, so we also have a second dish to try there.
