Everything is is a mirage due to the brilliant chefs showing their amazing skills and entertaining guests. Because the chefs are very entertaining and highly skilled it takes the focus away from the SERIOUS problems. My partner and I have been visiting this place for a very long time. I have been coming here with family for almost 20 years!
Last night we arrived late (10pm) so there were no live shows and we were seated outside on the normal tables. The staff were not very friendly and seemed to be irritated. Now, this place is very overpriced for the portion sizes and quality of ingredients used. I usually get the banana chicken and my partner orders the Teriyaki chicken. This time, he chose duck because he noticed a difference in the quality of the chicken last time. So the Teriyaki duck dish was miniscule and extrely fatty. Duck is fatty indeed, however, if you are going to spend 25 EUR for just one person, you would think that they give the decent parts or at least ensure it is of good quality. Unfortunately, they did not. My partner took most of the duck out of his mouth and then tried my banana chicken because he was very hungry, to which he noticed that the quality of the chicken was surprisingly worse than the last time.
We all have different flavour palettes and judgement, true. Please heed my words though, we are extremly fair people who love to indulge once in a while after saving up some money or celebrating a special occasion. This was a 65 EUR meal (yes my partner tipped, which I did not agree with). Excluding the 5 EUR tip, we ordered 2 mains, 1 beer and 1 aperitif (6 EUR).
We understand very well how the restaurant business works, having worked in restaurant chains myself. Staff begin their closing routine shortly before end of service, ensuring not to disrupt the guests. Disappointingly, the staff here were rude and made us feel extremely uncomfortable, by loudly dragging chairs and clanking tableware, cutlery and dishes.
Hygiene is also a large part of the disappointment! The tables were sticky and not clean! As a bonus gift, courtesy of the "attentive" staff, my partner later realised that the back of his shorts had lots of soya rice stuck to the back of them! It is evident that the staff do not pay close enough attention to the tables and chairs. We were saddened even more by the fact that it was all over the car leather as well!
Remember, this is Ayia Napa, full of tourists and nightlife and quite frankly now, better restaurants around the area with cheaper prices.
If you've made it this far, we'd just like to advise anyone reading this to not go there as your money and appetites are far more respected in other places. If you still choose to go, we'd advise to order anything with beef, as they cook this quite well and is usually very tender. Please reserve a table in advance with the chefs to experience the only highlight that Hokkaido has to offer. Please also tip the chefs cash and ensure it goes directly to them, as they are passionate, respectful and...
ย ย ย Read moreThe prices and the food quality of Hokkaido gave a pretty nice surprise and satisfaction after ditching an other restaurant for their sudden price increase. Soups and salads are well priced from 6 to 13.50 euros The Duck salad was 11.50 euros. The rich, well combined and balanced ingredients deserve a 10/10. Nigiricombination for 16 euros gave the chance to try a big variaty of nigiris. The one with huge orange caviar was amazing. The one with octopus was not that great. The one with the prawn could have a thicker prawn cut on it to balance the rice. Ebi Gyoza was perfectly prepared. I loved every bite of it. 10/10 The Duck teryaki was not my choice. It came with side dishes. You read it well...(plural) side dishes for 22.50. The potato was delicious and not greasy at all, the rice was nice and the vegetable was tasty too. The duck itself was raw to my taste but as I mentioned it was not my choice. Overall the Duck teryaki gets an 8/10. I was told that the Japanese beer was good. My soda water was cool and bubbly as I like it.
I thank the kitchen staff for preparing our food with care and I thank the waiters for their patience.
Keep up the great work and the affordable prices.
Thank you!
Ps.: We went to dine around 18:00. We did not plan it but there were still free tables. It is good to reserve a table though not to be...
ย ย ย Read moreSaw Hokkaido advertised locally on our recent holiday so as a lover of Japanese food I was keen to give it a go. Plus my wife and our friends had little or no experience of Japanese restaurants and Teppanyaki in particular. So we booked a table over the phone a couple of days prior and duly arrived at our allotted time. We were seated at one of the Teppanyaki tables and on a corner (L shaped) so the 4 of us could all hear each other. We started with some aperitifs then had some great starters - duck gyoza for me. Then on to my main course or the main event. The Teppanyaki chefs put on a great show of cooking our food. Even chopping the veg is a performance! We had a go at catching flying potato in our mouths - there were egg tricks - there was fake ketchup bottles - all pure theatre but all whilst cooking our main meals. My fillet beef teriyaki was superb to eat as well! Desserts were excellent and service was good and friendly all night. The bill worked out to 40 Euros each which we thought was great value for 4 courses plus drinks. There are quieter tables away from the Teppanyaki so it doesn't have to be a rowdy experience but personally I think that's the beauty of it. All in all a wonderful evening...
