This restaurant came highly recommended, and the evening started on a positive note. The calamari was fresh and well-prepared, the salad was flavorful, and the bread and sauces were enjoyable. We ordered a bottle of wine and ouzo, and everything seemed to be going well.

However, an issue arose regarding the fish we ordered. As a group of four, we requested a 1.2 kg fish, but what was served appeared smaller than expected. When we politely raised this concern with the staff, the response from both the waitstaff and the owner was unexpected and, unfortunately, unprofessional.

The owner, in particular, reacted strongly, insisting the fish was the correct size and dismissing our concerns. This escalated to a point where we were told that returning the fish would result in them calling the police, which seemed a disproportionate reaction to what was, at its core, a customer service issue. Despite our attempts to clarify the situation by comparing the fish with another of similar weight, it was clear to all of us that the cooked fish was smaller.

Regrettably, the owner continued to react defensively, expressing personal offense and accusing us of damaging his reputation. This aggressive behavior toward customers was unexpected, and unfortunately, it soured what was meant to be a pleasant evening. In the end, we were charged for 1 kg of fish, but the overall experience left us disappointed, especially as it was our final night in Protaras.

In hindsight, it would have been helpful to be present when the fish was weighed. While the food was enjoyable, the handling of this situation left much to be desired, particularly in terms of customer service and...

Beautiful setting for a fish restaurant on the shores of the med. That's the good bits. We arrived and tried to catch the eye of one of the seemingly many waiting staff. Eventually one acknowledged us and pointed us to a table. We sat down and waited... half a hour later I'm looking for a waiter to maybe, you know, bring a menu? Maybe ask if we'd like some drinks? Eventually I caught someone's eye and we had menus. No drinks but we had the drinks menu. Another looong wait, during which I managed to memorise the entire menu and I am again looking for someone to take an order. An order was finally taken rather abruptly and the waiter quickly disappeared back to wherever they hide here. The drinks and food actually came quite quickly which we found surprising, given the pace which we were by now becoming accustomed. The food was good. Not write-home-about good but it was enjoyable despite the fact that I could probably have fetched the fishing gear out of the car, gone and caught a couple of red mullet and barbequed them on the fire I had lit using two dry sticks I found on the beach in less time. Figured they would be quick to show us the bill...nope, wrong again. I had to actively seek out another member of the elusive waiting staff who, to be fair, brought us the bill quite quickly. Not that they'll be overly bothered, but tonight was the first time we haven't tipped. We were in there for over 2 hours and I only had red mullet and chips and a single bottle of carlsberg! We weren't offered a dessert menu, but it didn't matter as we both need to be back at work next Monday so probably wouldn't have had...

NEVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT!!!

We visited Kalamies Restaurant in August 2023. We had one of the biggest disappointments in years! They cancelled the fish meze on purpose, in order to overcharge their clients by ordering a la carte, which is very expensive and definitely not worth it, due the ridiculous quantity!

The biggest problem was the quantity of the food in the dishes. I ordered grilled calamari that was 19.5 euros and the quantity was ridiculous for an adult person. The calamari came with a tiny portion of rice and a TINY bit of a dip that was spread on the dish with a knife so that it looks more. We ordered tarama dip and they charged us 4.5 euros for 1.5 spoon that was bought from the supermarket and it was spread in the dish with a specific way so that it looks more. They brought us a basket of bread that included one(!) small pitta bread that was cut in 4 tiny pieces so that it looks more and 4 tiny slices of bread. They have chosen greek pitta on purpose because it is smaller.

The reason I am writing this review is to protect the people from going there, especially the tourists. We used to be clients in the past but we will definitely not going to...

We eat burgers and gyros. Maybe fish and seafood are better here. First positives. 1. Very nice view, 2. Clean restaurant, 3. You can choose your fish or seafood. 4. Homemade style potatoes. 5. Nice bulgur. Negatives. 1. Waiter have time to chit chat with other clients but don't have time open bottle for us or ask if everything is ok. When I ask another waiter to open a bottle he told me to wait because he works with another table. 2. Sauces. They only proposed ketchup and mayo. 3. Homemade french fries/chips with not even a pinch of salt. No salt, pepper, olive oil on table. 4. Burgers with no big history, meat definitely to dry for a beef. Decent but nothing amazing. 5. Chicken gyros (looks like chicken souvlaki). Meat with few spices (somethime on Cyprus you just get salt) but unfortunately dry with few small pieces of grilled paprika. 6. No veggies or salad to gyros. 7. Ice tea from store. Same with bread. Not bad but I know restaurants in area with homemade cold drinks, bread, wines, beer and similar/lowest prices. 8. Maybe because of Cypriot Mother's Days but we have to wait a really long time. Nothing special unfortunately.

This restaurant was recommended to us and undeed we had a best sit, but in the rstaurant you care most for the food and service, even if it has an advantage of a great location and a view. Aparently, the service and the food are below average. Starting from asking 3 times if we really have reservation for tjis particlular table and at the end not thanking for coming or choosing it... The MeZe is overpriced and of minimum size: not the attepizers, but the fish size itself (Tsepoura) as a shame even for a single person, let alone a ptetention it is a dish for the 2 people. And the final accord: some fresh melon (first they asked if we wish), and then bringing tiny pieces on a huge plate!!! - nowhere in Cyprus you find such cheap service. Our son enjoyed though the fresh salmon and prawns pasta and the Lava Cake. I would not recommend it to anyone, until the place change its attitude and adjust their portions... ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’

We recently dined at this fish restaurant and were overall pleased with our experience. The food, for the most part, was very good, with a wide selection of fish dishes that satisfied our cravings. However, we must admit that the fries left us slightly disappointed. They didn't quite meet our expectations and lacked the desired flavor and crispiness. Despite this minor setback, we were impressed by the attentive and friendly service provided by the staff. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful recommendations. The ambience of the restaurant was also enjoyable, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. While the fries didn't quite hit the mark, the rest of our meal and the excellent service made up for it. We would recommend this place for its delicious fish dishes and great service, but perhaps opt for a different side dish to complement your meal.
