This restaurant came highly recommended, and the evening started on a positive note. The calamari was fresh and well-prepared, the salad was flavorful, and the bread and sauces were enjoyable. We ordered a bottle of wine and ouzo, and everything seemed to be going well.
However, an issue arose regarding the fish we ordered. As a group of four, we requested a 1.2 kg fish, but what was served appeared smaller than expected. When we politely raised this concern with the staff, the response from both the waitstaff and the owner was unexpected and, unfortunately, unprofessional.
The owner, in particular, reacted strongly, insisting the fish was the correct size and dismissing our concerns. This escalated to a point where we were told that returning the fish would result in them calling the police, which seemed a disproportionate reaction to what was, at its core, a customer service issue. Despite our attempts to clarify the situation by comparing the fish with another of similar weight, it was clear to all of us that the cooked fish was smaller.
Regrettably, the owner continued to react defensively, expressing personal offense and accusing us of damaging his reputation. This aggressive behavior toward customers was unexpected, and unfortunately, it soured what was meant to be a pleasant evening. In the end, we were charged for 1 kg of fish, but the overall experience left us disappointed, especially as it was our final night in Protaras.
In hindsight, it would have been helpful to be present when the fish was weighed. While the food was enjoyable, the handling of this situation left much to be desired, particularly in terms of customer service and...
ย ย ย Read moreBeautiful setting for a fish restaurant on the shores of the med. That's the good bits. We arrived and tried to catch the eye of one of the seemingly many waiting staff. Eventually one acknowledged us and pointed us to a table. We sat down and waited... half a hour later I'm looking for a waiter to maybe, you know, bring a menu? Maybe ask if we'd like some drinks? Eventually I caught someone's eye and we had menus. No drinks but we had the drinks menu. Another looong wait, during which I managed to memorise the entire menu and I am again looking for someone to take an order. An order was finally taken rather abruptly and the waiter quickly disappeared back to wherever they hide here. The drinks and food actually came quite quickly which we found surprising, given the pace which we were by now becoming accustomed. The food was good. Not write-home-about good but it was enjoyable despite the fact that I could probably have fetched the fishing gear out of the car, gone and caught a couple of red mullet and barbequed them on the fire I had lit using two dry sticks I found on the beach in less time. Figured they would be quick to show us the bill...nope, wrong again. I had to actively seek out another member of the elusive waiting staff who, to be fair, brought us the bill quite quickly. Not that they'll be overly bothered, but tonight was the first time we haven't tipped. We were in there for over 2 hours and I only had red mullet and chips and a single bottle of carlsberg! We weren't offered a dessert menu, but it didn't matter as we both need to be back at work next Monday so probably wouldn't have had...

We visited Kalamies Restaurant in August 2023. We had one of the biggest disappointments in years! They cancelled the fish meze on purpose, in order to overcharge their clients by ordering a la carte, which is very expensive and definitely not worth it, due the ridiculous quantity!
The biggest problem was the quantity of the food in the dishes. I ordered grilled calamari that was 19.5 euros and the quantity was ridiculous for an adult person. The calamari came with a tiny portion of rice and a TINY bit of a dip that was spread on the dish with a knife so that it looks more. We ordered tarama dip and they charged us 4.5 euros for 1.5 spoon that was bought from the supermarket and it was spread in the dish with a specific way so that it looks more. They brought us a basket of bread that included one(!) small pitta bread that was cut in 4 tiny pieces so that it looks more and 4 tiny slices of bread. They have chosen greek pitta on purpose because it is smaller.
The reason I am writing this review is to protect the people from going there, especially the tourists. We used to be clients in the past but we will definitely not going to...
