Blackdog Beroun — Restaurant in okres Beroun

Few days ago I visited this place after many years, when Blackdog was famous for its authentic and good quality food. Unfortunately and sadly it is no longer the case. Service was appalling, it felt like there was no manager. 4 or 5 waiters with almost empty indoor area (1 person was there upon our arrival) and still we waited 11mins to order at least drinks. When ordering food the waiter didn’t approach us proactively offering restaurant specials, something you would expect from a good restaurant. Some items from lunch menu were sold out at 1pm so we ordered from standard menu. Once food delivered there wasn’t enough napkins, so I had to stand up and only then I got noticed and the waitresses brought them. During the meal no one had asked us if we are satisfied. A mother with a child sitting next to us had to stand up and get cutlery from another table. Food didn’t amaze us too - burgers were fine, coleslaw especially, but fish fingers were dry and overcooked and it definitely wasn’t a fresh juicy fish (we live in London and at my son’s school they get much better fish and we talk about school meal, which costs nothing and not 180Kc/£6, for which you would get at least 4 fresh cod filets streetfood). I tried smoked ribs, restaurant’s special, but they were too dry and there was no sauce, which is shame when they claim they made it themselves in their own BBQ marinade. Just putting this marinade/sauce on the plate would definitely improve the meal. Once finished we waited again, so I asked someone from the staff, who was passing by, to check if someone is coming or whether I need to go to the till and, big surprise, I was told to go to the till. When asked if I enjoyed the food I told the truth. Staff looked surprised, so seems that customers are used to this service/food here. I appreciated a 10% discount, however the food and service was still way too expensive for what we got and what you get elsewhere. My first visit was a while ago and I asked for two burgers I'd take home. I was let down apparently the cook would not be able to cook for other people in the restaurant. Very disappointing as the bar was not full so if I sat down and ordered from behind the bar they would not refuse it. But I did not think of that nor the staff and to be honest the staff looked they were not coping very well.

My second visit was with a friend on a Saturday evening. I thought I'd give this restaurant a chance. No table for two was offered as, only bar seats, as they were all booked. Fair enough. Until three lads arrived about 15 mins after us and were offered a table that was booked but not by them. I asked the waiter if there is a table just for an hour as I only intended to eat and leave. The answer was no. I stayed with my friend for one hour and noticed that all that time there were three tables completely free. My biggest concern was the food itself. It arrived within half an hour. The burger was raw inside (the cook was obviously in a hurry). I ate all of it except the big raw chunk inside. I know I could have asked for exchange but this just should not happen. I am afraid, my expectation were too high regarding staff and mainly the food. ...

We came for something small to eat and stayed for beer, gin and a lot to eat.

So while taking a bike trip through Czechia we also stopped in Beroun for one night and looked for a place to eat close to our camping spot. We found this Bar on Google and chose it because of their good reviews. We were not disappointed, the vegetarian burger is really good and our sides (Mac’n Cheese & Jalapeño-Fries) as well. What really let us stay a bit longer was their fine selection of gin and tonics of which we had a few.

What we also found really outstanding is their great service - personell is really attentive, we first had to sit at the bar because no free tables were left but as soon as one was free we got asked if we’d like to move. When we finished a drink it did not take long for them to come by and ask if we wanted a new one and the food was also delivered quick and without flaws.
