This is exactly what I imagine when I hear the word "bakery". They have a great selection of breads, buns, rohlíky, buchty, cakes and other typical Czech pastry, nice coffee, tea and lemonades, everything available to go. If you want to sit down for a breakfast, I strongly recommend you a tuna or egg spread breads, "zapekanka" (bread roll with cheese and other stuff that will be freshly melted under the grill for you) and větroplachy, sweet mini pastry similar to better known profitteroli. You can "tune" your drink with more milk, sugar, honey or cinnamon and they also offer a free tap water, which is a big plus, still not very common in Czech Republic. Just be prepared for a smaller queue during the more frequented times (you'll wait approximately 10 minutes) and don't be afraid to ask if you don't see your favorites on display, they might just be being prepared in the back!

Read moreWe ended up at Antonínovo pekařství around 8:40 in the morning after a small coffee adventure through Vršovice. First stop: a place called Tvoje Máma (which means “your mom” in Czech). It was absolutely packed with hipsters, the line was way too long, and honestly we didn’t understand what the fuss was about; definitely not the spot to sit and enjoy a calm morning coffee.
Second stop: another café called Café & Palačinka that told us, “sorry, we don’t open until 9.” A bit surreal, but fair enough. We passed once more after 9 and they still had the Closed sign hanging on the door.
Finally, we arrived here, and it was exactly what we were looking for. Friendly service, fresh products, good portions, and fair prices. The pastries felt like they came straight out of an Italian bakery. Personally, I would love to see a few more savory baked options, but overall, everything they do offer is high quality and...
Read moreFriends in Žižkov highly recommended Antonínovo pekařství, so when a branch opened in Vršovice a few years ago, we were delighted. Several years later, however, it's evident that 'service with a smile' is still a somewhat alien concept to the staff who run the shop. Perhaps it's the time of day (we tend to go in the later afternoon), but entering the shop is a bit like the Wheel of Fortune. You could end up with a decent customer experience, but more often than not you land on Bankrupt. It's a shame, because the product isnt bad. But there are many genuinely customer-friendly cafes now in the area, so watch out, guys - you have...
