Great food, but racist waitress. Great place for non-Asian people.
I went there yesterday with my friend from France, who just wanted to taste some Czech specialty dishes. We are both Asian. I ordered tatarský biftek and vepřové koleno (in Czech). The food was some of the best I’ve ever eaten, but the way the waitress interacted with us made us feel like we were the lowest race of humanity and not worthy of being there. My friend doesn't know a single word of Czech, but he was still annoyed.
My friend then asked her for directions to the toilet (in English). She just gave him a cold glare. He asked again, and she responded with the same expression before pointing to the toilet. He came back and said he regretted speaking to her.
When we paid, we gave her cash. When she gave us the change, she slammed it onto the table (not very hard, but we could feel it) and went inside without saying goodbye or anything. It was really annoying.
Was she having a bad day? No. The way she interacted with non-Asian people was completely different, as we observed. The food was truly excellent. However, the annoyance we felt while eating prevents me from rating it more...
Read moreYou could translate the name of the restaurant into English as "At roasted pork knuckle" - so it is easy to guess what's the food most people order in there ... but first, let me talk about the place in general. The restaurant is situated in a quiet part of Prague 4 district. The building is just average, so don't expect fancy interior.
Anyway, you visit this kind of local restaurants mostly because of the quality of the food (and beer) ... and let me tell you, it is delicious in there.
The pork knuckle was the the best I ever had - perfectly roasted, the meat fell of from the bone easily, served with bread and horseradish, mustard and raw shredded cabbage. I ordered dark beer, and although I'm not a big fan of the Budejovicky Budvar brand, it was very good this time: correct temperature, properly tapped, and what's also not very common in Czech Republic, it was tapped exactly to the line.
All in all, great choice if you know what kind of...
Read moreMight be the best meal we had in Prague. We got their famous pork knuckle/knee ( not too sure) but it was on their specialties. The meat was cooked perfectly with crispy skin. I dont normally like sauerkraut but theirs was crunchy and sweet and perfect almost like a lighter pickled cabbage salad. Their mustards were so good & their side sauce of what tasted like wasabi (not sure what it was called) also with a side of bread. Portion was really big too!! This dish would’ve fed 2-3 even 4 people
Also ordered the rabbit — also surprisingly good!! The gravy was yum and they served it with a generous side of dumpling ( kind of like their local bread!)
It really felt like a mom and pop shop and mostly locals filled the place. Thought it wiuld be hard to communicate but really all you need is google translate to...
