Shimmers — Restaurant in Red Sea

One of the worst dining experiences ever.

Short version: Food is mediocre at best and service is terrible with rude staff who think it’s fine to insult customers.

Long version: Food: We ordered a pepporoni pizza, fettuccine alfredo and a chicken curry. All 3 dishes were really underwhleming. The pizza was tastless with subpar quality cheese. Alfredo pasta had too much garlic and too much cream (which shouldn’t be in the alfredo sauce to begin with). The chicken in the chicken curry was too thin and too dry with more potatoes than chicken.

Service: I thought the food was bad, but I was willing to let that go until the bill came in. Staff are very incompetent and the bill included stuff I did not order, in exchange for other items I ordered. I told them and they corrected the bill. Now, come to the payment, I paid and got a message from my bank that the amount was successfully charged from my card. However, they said the amount was not debited and that if i checked my mobile banking, I may find that the amount has already been refunded and that this has just happened with another customer now and yet another customer yesterday. As absurd as this sounded to me, I checked and found nothing that indicates that the amount has been refunded.

Now, their solution was that I had to pay again and if the money was not refunded they would call me and send me the money! This was beyond outrageous to me that they’re demanding customers to pay twice because they have a faulty machine that they insist on using. Even if the money is to be refunded eventually, it remains charged twice! I really did not understand why they keep using a dysfunctional machine that causes the same issue with different customers and their response was: “It’s not our fault, it’s the bank’s and we told them”.

The cherry on top was their “financial manager” who obviously did not receive any training on how to deal with customers or how to operate in the hospitality industry to the point that he said to me: “It is no honor meeting you”.

What a wonderful experience. My girlfriend and I stayed at the long beach resort and decided to go to Shimmers for an evening meal. We got a taxi from the hotel return trip £15 sterling. Taxi driver was brilliant. Shimmers is in a lovely location by the sea and felt very safe with great service. We had the spring rolls for starters and I had the surf and turf for my main and my girlfriend had the mustard chicken which looked amazing, we both had the lotus cheesecake for desert which tasted fantastic and a couple of cocktails the whole meal tasted lovely and good value at approx £60 iuk including drinks. the restaurant then called my taxi driver so I did not have to worry about my return to the resort. My husband and I are staying at a nearby hotel and decided to venture out for a casual bite and a drink—and we’re so glad we did! The restaurant was right on the beach, offering stunning views and a relaxed atmosphere that instantly made us feel welcome.

From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and attentive. We ordered a small dish and a cold drink, and everything exceeded our expectations. The food was fresh and flavorful, the drinks were perfectly chilled, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable.

It was the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem. Next time we’re in Egypt, we’ll absolutely be coming back. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy great food...
