DA MAURO "SOLO PASTA & PIZZA" — Restaurant in South Sinai

We found this restaurant by accident on the internet and we were really-really glad we did. It is a little hard to find if you are not lookibg for it, but it is near the big bell tower and mall on the main street in Old Market. The welcoming and family there were incredible as they made us feel like long lost friends not just first time visitors. It is family owned and has a beautiful Greekish vibe to it. It looks minimalistic and is really clean. We got a complimentary focaccia - chef's kiss. After we had the appetizers plate, which had a variation of different classical Italian foods and were freshly made and delicious. We also had the mix of raviolis, which were the best ones I have ever eaten in my whole life (especially the ones with burnt butter and sage sauce). And the pizzas were made from fresh products and tasted absolutely beautifully. And coffee... exellent. Actually good espresso with greatly foamed milk. We were mesmerized and for that place only we would come back to Sharm-El Shake if they do not come to Estonia first. Abaolutely the best...

If Da Mauro were a person, it would be that colleague who does the bare minimum yet expects a promotion. The food? Passable and uninspired at best—classic Italian flavours diluted down to something vaguely recognizable. The service? Let’s just say it’s as memorable as a blank page. The portions? Clearly designed with a cost-cutting accountant in mind rather than a hungry diner.

But fear not, dear guest—there is one strong, lingering flavour you won’t forget: the bitterness of the bill. Nothing enhances the taste of mediocrity quite like an overpriced receipt. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian experience, keep looking. If you enjoy paying premium prices for forgettable food, then Da Mauro might just...

La mia vuole essere una critica costruttiva. Eravamo venuti per mangiare un pizza, visto anche che dal nome del ristorante si faceva “solo pasta e pizza”, ma scoprendo solo una volta arrivati che non facevano più pizza. A questo punto, vista l’insegna del ristorante, sarebbe bene apportare una modifica onde evitare incomprensioni con i clienti. Abbiamo pertanto virato su altre pietanze e nulla da ridire. Il proprietario si vede che ci tiene a mantenersi fedele alla tradizione italiana non cadendo nell’errore di internazionalizzare la cucina con rivisitazioni lontane dalla tradizione. Bravura anche nel riproporre prodotti italiani con ingredienti suini utilizzando il manzo. Quello che abbiamo preso era tutto fresco e buono. Il personale molto cortese ed il proprietario sempre presente ed attento. Non avevamo prenotato, ma ci ha comunque trovato un tavolo. Mi sento pertanto di consigliare questo posto, sperando anche in un ritorno di un grande classico della nostra cucina, la pizza. Visto che dalle recensioni e dalle foto sembrava molto apprezzata o altrimenti segnalando meglio che non sarà più parte del menu. Consiglio questo posto se volete risentire durante il vostro soggiorno a Sharm i sapori di casa! P.S. So che importare vini dall’italia alzi particolarmente i costi poi di vendita, ma una piccola selezione di prodotti nostrani farebbe piacere. Anche considerando che a Sharm i prodotti locali sono di qualità bassissima. Magari non tutti i clienti, ma io personalmente sarei stato disposto a pagare qualcosa in più rispetto all’italia per un buon vino. Non conosco le normative locali e non mi esprimo ulteriormente, ma credo che sarebbe un quid in più rispetto ad altri esercizi...
