It was our first visit to the restaurant. We are not terribly difficult customers and always try to approach a restaurant with an open mind. We had heard good things about this restaurant. To start out with The waitresses were very slow to take our order. We ordered a lot of appetizers and sides to share so nothing too elaborate to cook. Still, we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. For the actual food it really was average at best. The Korean cucumber, a favorite dish of mine and super easy to make good and in advance( which i imagine is important for restaurant business), was very very disappointing at this restaurant. There was barely any flavor, it really was simply some cucumber with sesame seeds. I really recommend the restaurant to revisit this recipe and try to develop it with garlic, rice vinegar and soy sauce (even more korean chilli pepper powder) because it is an easy and impressive recipe to have in the menu and cutrently it was ridiculously underwhelming. The Korean crispy chicken did not resemble crispy chicken at all (it was average at best), the crispy eggplant (although the best dish of the night) was not crispy. The kimchi fries, although good, were not to the standard i would expect from a fancy restaurant with that price point (would expect that from a food-truck or a street-food restaurant). The whipped ricotta was a bit on the sweeter side but i guess that was an interesting experience. I will say - the yuzu dessert was nice! Overall the expectation i had for the restaurant was not met and it was an overall underwhelming experience. But it was a very pretty restaurant and the atmosphere was nice. I will say that Only the male waiter managed to provide good service and the young ladies seemed forced to be there. I guess it’s a good experience for one visit but I will not...
Read moreSake availability reminiscing of the old Kampai was a nice feature. Beer selection also good taking in both Asian beers and local craft beers with a good variety from different styles. White Negroni was definitely boozy and could have probably used a lot more dilution in the stirring glass (a sense of burning in my throat from the alcohol ABV). Steak was nicely cooked and very well sized for the prize. The accomodating sauce on top with the spiced butter? was a tad bit overwhelming, even though tasting very good with the veggies. I'd say the fat levels of the dish are a bit high with both the meat and butter fats - some refreshing side would be a good compliment for the whole ordeal.
Service was superb with Andreas - a very nice and honest waiter being attentive at prefect times.
Time spent at UMA: a very quaint and wholesome experience. Decided to take a seat indoors for the quieter atmosphere. The place seems to be buzzing and popular with a good view of the seaside. A bold menu with as their paper menu says "unorthodox modern Asia" is definitely worth...
Read moreWe had a lovely evening at UMA Restoran in Peetri with old friends. Although the staff wasn't familiar with what a shandy is, they were very accommodating and provided all the necessary ingredients, so I could mix it myself for everyone at the table. The shandy turned out great, and it was a fun touch to our evening.
To finish off the meal, we had a pot of fragrant lemon tea, which was a perfect way to end the night. For dessert, we ordered a locally made Eton Mess, which came in a hilariously unexpected presentation. It looked like a sandwich with sausage and mustard, but the taste was delightful—creamy, vanilla-like, with fresh strawberries. It was both amusing and delicious!
A big thanks to the staff for their attentiveness and especially to the chef for...
