I have been here place many times, and going come back for more.
In Tallinn there are only a few Ramen places and if you just search Google Maps, you might not find this one. At the moment of writing there are two Ramens offered - Shoyu and Hakata.
There's nothing much to say about Shoyu, good light broth with a bit thicker noodles with more wheat. It's a classic ramen and if you like this type, you know it already. It's a third pic in the review.
But I think you should definitely come to try Hakata. The broth is very flavourful and slightly creamy, noodles are thin and pork slices are freshly crisped before serving. Simply delicious. First and second picture.
I haven't tried Hakata yet in Japan, but just for a comparison we went to a place specialising in this type of ramen in Amsterdam, and here it is better by a good stretch.
Generally, apart from the ramens, all the food is great. I have almost tried the whole bowl-burrito menu and nearly all the onigiris by now, everything is good with a consistent quality.
And definitely come check out onigiris. Not only they are tasty and filling, but also are exactly the same as in Japan and served in authentic onigiri imported packaging. Never hurts to pratice to unwrap those...
Read moreI ordered some dishes via Wolt today and I was extremely disappointed!
The sushi maki were almost only half the size compared to the photos on their Wolt page and costed 8 EUR for 8 tiny pieces.
The vegetable gyoza was completely overfried, dark brown and dry and the filling tasteless.
The Japanese Chicken Karaage curry was almost uneatable: the sauce nauseatingly tasteless, it only had some undefined slight sweetness without any spices or salt and it was thick with the taste of flour and the chicken on top was on the other hand extremely salty from the soy sauce.
I'm not a complainer normally and I order a few times a week from Wolt but it's been the only huge disappointment in recent times. Adding insult to injury, the venue didn't accept my photo complaints on the sushi maki and the gyoza in spite of the obvious size and consistency difference between their ad and reality. Wolt gave me 5 EUR credit but the venue simply laughed at my complaint so that's why this review.
See photos of ad vs reality. Simply miserable what they delivered.
Don't ever order from them anything! Shame on the cook but even bigger shame on the manager who didn't admit their terrible quality food. No place for such venues in Tallinn in...
Read moreWe had hakata ramen, unagi futomaki, and tonkatsu don. Compared to Japanese food elsewhere, I wasn't very satisfied but in Tallinn, I'd unfortunately rate this as being on the good side. The ramen soup was OK but preferably should have more pork fat and maybe less salty. The ramen itself could have been slightly softer. Shashu pork was also brittle.
The unagi futomaki had cream cheese, not sure what the cream cheese was doing there. The unagi piece was also really small and futomaki means big maki; it wasn't as big as what I expect from Futomaki. The wasabi was also not fresh organic which is kind of the norm in Tallinn.
Tonkatsu was also subpar; the batter did not stick to the pork and the pork wasn't soft. The Tonkatsu sauce is decent but the veg they placed with the tonkatsu pork did not mesh well and they had boiled eggs, it just didn't feel right.
Price-wise, it's OK, very reasonable and the portion sizes were decent. I have similar concerns with other Japanese places in Tallinn. I'd still say this place is decent. They have other Japanese menu options beyond sushi; they even have...
