Read moreAs a foodie who enjoys fine dining experiences, I had the pleasure of trying HOTTO, a modern Japanese-inspired Asian fusion restaurant in Addis Ababa. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and a good value for the price, especially considering the unique concept and stylish atmosphere. The location and ambiance were excellent elegant, modern, and inviting.
That said, there were a few areas that could be improved:
Seating for Couples I visited with my wife and was surprised to find there were no tables specifically arranged for couples. We had to sit at a table meant for four, which slightly diminished the intimate dining experience we were hoping for.
Inconsistent Service During our visit, four different waitresses attended to our table. This led to some confusion orders were forgotten, and we had to repeat requests as staff rotated. A more consistent service approach would greatly enhance the dining experience.
Order Mistake with the Main Course I ordered a medium-rare fillet of beef but was initially served a medium. I thought it was a kitchen error, but upon checking the bill, I realized the order was entered incorrectly. To their credit, they corrected it promptly and brought the steak as requested, which I appreciated.
Lipstick on a Tea Glass😾 When we ordered tea, we noticed lipstick on one of the glasses. This was quite disappointing and not acceptable for an establishment of this caliber. Cleanliness and attention to detail in presentation are essential.
Delays Between Courses There was a significant delay between courses, especially when it came time to order dessert. We had to wait around 30 minutes and call the staff between meals to proceed with the next course.
Final Thoughts: Despite these issues, HOTTO still stands out as a promising addition to Addis’s dining scene. The fusion menu is creative, and the atmosphere is ideal for special occasions. I especially appreciate the effort the team made to accommodate my special request for my wife it meant a lot😊
Thank you for the experience, and I look forward to seeing how HOTTO continues to grow...

His passion for his craft and commitment to excellence were evident throughout the evening.
Our waiter, Yisak, was phenomenal. The quality of service he provided was second to none. His attentiveness, thoughtful recommendations, and consistent care ensured that every detail of our dining experience was flawless. He truly went above and beyond, making us feel valued and cared for throughout the evening.
As someone who has traveled extensively and experienced the world-class service of establishments like the Four Seasons, The Ritz-Carlton, and The Edition, I can confidently say that the level of service and attention to detail at Hotto was on par, if not better.
