Amazing location and perfect for no-frills cheaper rooms they sell, for which this is a review. Be very careful though, there’s one or two rooms they shouldn’t be selling. On the top floor there’s the two ‘triple’ rooms, one with skylights, window and balcony overlooking the slopes. The one we were given has no windows at all and no balcony. If the skylights are covered in snow, you might as well be underground. It’s pretty shoddy finishing and it doubles as some weird storeroom (see photos), so it’s just a bit miserable if I’m honest, it’s like you’re sat in yer parents half finished loft conversion. I would not recommend having a third person in the triple either (we didn’t). They’re definitely not joking about the noise. It didn’t bother us at all but even 4 floors up there’s reverb until 2am, so a kid is inadvisable. Also, the room is pretty much in the toilet - in that the toilet has no window nor other ventilation of any kind. It’s basically a plaster triangle with a toilet in it, the bed is effectively in the same room. Add a diet of beer and local food and you get why haha.
There’s really not much point reviewing the staff, there kind of aren’t any. The manager gave us a key on the first day, he didn’t say a single word to us the 7 days after, not hello, nothing. He was permanently running around in a state of crisis, even if it was just clearing tables so perhaps that was just him. The bar staff are pleasant, efficient, anonymous, they work for a busy pub and you’re no more than a punter. Kinda nice in a way. The only link between the bar and the rooms is you can claim (if you don’t ask you won’t get it, every day) a pastry, juice and coffee for the discounted price of EUR 7.50 each day. And you could take your drinks to your room (and balcony if you had one).
I would definitely stay here again, the location is perfect and there’s good reason for the good reviews. I would make absolutely certain you don’t have one of the dud rooms though and get written confirmation. Ours was room 2, if you have that room booked I’d cancel immediately, although I don’t trust them not to change the room numbers so be careful. We had screenshots of our booking of room 1 showing the balcony in photos but ‘the owner was in town and wanted it’ so we were bumped. Who’s going to argue when it’s NY and the entire resort is full. Halfway through our stay we told the manager a blower heater was stuck on 24/7. We had to open the skylight so it must have cost a fortune. They’re obviously just rolling in it and don’t care, cos he certainly didn’t, so good luck to them I guess, and definitely stay here, but be...
Read moreA Lack of Customer Care and Basic Hospitality
I was genuinely surprised by the lack of goodwill and basic customer service at this bar—something completely out of step with the culture of pubs and bars I’ve experienced elsewhere.
One of our party accidentally spilled their beer immediately after it was handed over, in part due to a poorly placed beer mat with a raised edge that easily caught the bottom of the pint glass. Given that the spill occurred right at the bar, as part of a larger round, the decent and customer-friendly response would have been to replace the drink as a goodwill gesture—something any reputable establishment would do without hesitation.
Unfortunately, the bar manager showed no courtesy or understanding, refusing to replace the drink and demonstrating a dismissive attitude. It’s a baffling approach to customer service, and one that ultimately only harms the bar’s reputation and business.
As someone staying in the area for the season, this experience has ensured that I won’t be returning—nor will I be recommending it to others. And, unlike usual, I didn’t even bother returning my empty glasses to the bar. If they can’t show a basic level of hospitality, why should customers extend them the same courtesy?
A post note, the bar staff were lovely. They even asked the manager (on their own accord) if they could replace my pint. So this is...
Read morePire service au restaurant. Honteux!
