Le Lion Rouge — Restaurant in Angoulême

We have been to this restaurant a few times and every time we are disappointed. We love the deco and ambiance. We were there at 12.20 table booked online for 12.30 to be told that we hadn’t booked with them there is a website which has all their details on but is a scam. So be aware you can only book by phone she wanted nothing to do with the fact I booked online which I thought would want to know as it’s their information the scammers are using even to say she would into it and maybe get it removed. Anyway back to ordering food. Our server told us what was the menu of the day sounded lovely so out of 4 of us I wanted it to be told it was sold out there was around 10/15 people in the restaurant how did it sell out that quick also my grandson wanted a margarita pizza no sorry only kids menu he’s 16 so he wasn’t allowed and no margarita pizza on adult menu. Having eaten here several times with friends I went again on Saturday for a double birthday celebration. I am English but my friends are French and having lived here over 20 years speak French all the time. The waitress arrived and emmediately said "are you going to speak English all the time?" Which embarrassed me! I asked for an Italian red wine and was told in no uncertain terms I couldn't have any as they only had a bottle and wouldn't be opening it for us! In December I ordered the only salad on the menu and again ordered it on Saturday so was surprised to see the portion had been cut by at least 30% but the price was more. En toute honnêteté, j'ai longuement hésité entre 4 et 5 étoiles. Mais finalement, je me dois de vous accorder les 5 étoiles.

Le Lion Rouge, pour moi, c’est avant tout un cadre magnifique. Un lieu qui donne un vrai sens à ce qu’on déguste : on ne vient pas juste pour manger, mais pour vivre une expérience différente.

La carte est relativement réduite, mais c'est un vrai gage de qualité. Et malgré cela, chacun peut y trouver son compte. Les plats sont soignés, bien pensés, et surtout cohérents avec l’esprit du lieu.

Le seul véritable point noir, c'est l’attente parfois un peu longue avant d’être servis. Cela peut déranger si on prévoit de rentrer tôt. Mais paradoxalement, c’est aussi ce qui fait le charme de l’endroit : ici, personne ne vous presse pour libérer la table ou pour lancer un deuxième service. On prend son temps, on savoure, on discute… Et finalement, on apprécie réellement l’instant. Dans un monde où tout va trop vite, ça fait du bien.

Le vrai point fort du Lion Rouge, c’est surtout la qualité de service. Notre serveur a été tout simplement parfait, du début à la fin. Professionnel, à l’écoute, agréable, de bon conseil, et surtout adaptable. Par exemple : il n’y avait plus de profiteroles ? Il a pris l’initiative de nous proposer un geste commercial, en nous servant l’équivalent du dessert, mais sans les choux. Ce genre de détail change tout, et témoigne d’une vraie attention portée au client. Sans parler qu'il est venu le voir pour savoir si je désirerais plus de chocolat....

Autre point à souligner : l’honnêteté sur la provenance et la qualité des produits. On sait ce qu’on mange, d’où ça vient, et ça, c’est trop rare pour ne pas être mentionné.

D’ailleurs, la glace maison était tout bonnement excellente !

Le Lion Rouge est un restaurant où l’on vient pour bien manger, mais surtout pour bien vivre le moment. Je reviendrai avec plaisir, et je recommande chaudement cette adresse.
