Kraken — Restaurant in Arcachon

A great independent restaurant. It doesn’t look very impressive but we were greeted in a very friendly manner and there was air conditioning!!! We chose a 5 course menu for €59 (I think). The chef asked if we didnt like anything and said she cooked what she thought would be good. The waiter said they’d bring us glasses of wine to suit as we didn’t want a bottle. We said to keep the price down and they gave us a very generous glass of delicious Pouilly fume for €7. Ended up having two of them and a glass of lovely red with the duck. Each course was tiny but brilliant. A salmon coleslaw was the amuse bouch. Sea bass ceviche with a tiny blob of lemon sorbet followed. A tender squid pasta followed. Generous portion of John dory with tabouleh. The duck was served on a bed of mixed vegetables. Our pudding was a strange but fabulous raspberry and lemon bomb. They then brought up a complimentary digestif - raspberry and Armagnac I think. Really...

My new favourite pick in Arcachon ! The Kraken is a new restaurant close to the beach, with a short menu (always a good sign) and everything made fresh. We had sea bream carpaccio as a starter (very fresh and light - which was great in the hot weather), followed by a slow-cooked chicken (moist and yummy) and an amazing Bab'Arcachon and chocolate tart as a dessert. All that for 26€ is an amazing value. Staff was friendly (as him how they do the "flambé" pasta in their big round of parmesan cheese) and orders came fast. Nous avions repéré ce petit restaurant et son menu proposant du St Pierre (poisson). Let's go, on réserve. On est reçu par une serveuse sympathique et souriante (bon point) qui nous installe. Le resto ne possède malheureusement pas de terrasse mais une véranda climatisée qui, au final, est toute aussi bien. On commande la totale : bouteille de vin, entrée, plat, fromage (Bon St nectaire à Arcachon c est exotique mais pour nous qui venons d'Auvergne, c'était plutot amusant - bref pas gênant car pour être honnête on avait déjà mangé du plus mauvais St Nectaire par chez nous que celui-ci). Petit amuse bouche offert. Cool ! Puis les plats arrivent. La cuisine est bonne et raffinée et ce petit St Pierre avec son caviar d'aubergine, excellent. La cheffe passe même vous voir à la fin du repas. La classe a Dallas Maintenant case des petits bemols (et oui, il y'en a toujours qlqs uns malheureusement) qui ne sont toutefois ni liés à la cuisine ni au service mais plus à l'ambiance/déco du lieu. Par rapport au prix payé, on pourrait s'attendre à une deco un poil plus chiadé, plus en adéquation avec la prestation culinaire et tarifaire que le lieu cherche à cultiver. Le Cpt Nemo aurait pu abandonner au Kraken quelques éléments de son nautilus 😉. Mais bon...c est un resto, on vient pour y manger avant tout et la cuisine est au rendez vous (y trouver du poulpe aurait été un outrage ? 🙃) Dernier point, moins cool (peut etre exceptionnel). Les toilettes n'étaient pas très attrayantes...ça peut arriver bien qu'il faille l'éviter.

Bon pour résumer : une bonne adresse qui propose une bonne cuisine. Nous reviendrons sans problème
