La Cantina — Restaurant in Arles

This was an unfortunate exception to otherwise lovely food and service in St. Remy. Table for three was barely big enough for two. Rude manager waved vaguely and joked “your table is over there, you just have to work out how to get to it.” There’s only 30 cm between the table and a tree, forcing waiters to constantly jolt you. I asked for another table, and the same utterly indifferent manager said I would have been told we’d get this table. As if I’m senile, and forgot? She also lied and said it was their last table available for my booking, whereas I booked the evening before and was only third on the list.

To top it all off, the pizzas were cold, and the quality of the ingredients were poor. Avoid this place - there’s so many lovely other places to eat in this town.

EDIT - So I see they have responded, with the same arrogance, this time with a sprinkle of homophobia. I wasn’t worried about being “touched”, I was annoyed at being physically knocked while eating. Nothing to do with attraction. What a truly repulsive and disgusting response.

As to having nothing to do - there’s plenty to do and enjoy. Takes just a moment to share my experience here to save other people the trouble.

The table for five was actually a table for four, with a seat tagged on the end. It would be entirely reasonable for three people. You say it was booked - ignoring the fact we ourselves had booked the night before.

The table you gave us was not big enough for three. It was a small table for two, with an extra seat, crammed in between a fence and a tree. You clearly care only about profit, and not providing good food or service.

I see you don’t actually acknowledge any of the issues, only double down on rudeness and arrogance.

Anyway, your complete disregard in the response says more to others than...

Je n’ai pas eu la chance de juger la qualité de la cuisine, du service ni de l’ambiance étant donné que la patronne a refusé de nous donner une table. Pourquoi ? Parce que nous avions 2 enfants de 15 mois !!! Nous nous sommes présentés à 11h30 (4 adultes et nos 2 enfants) dans l’espoir d’avoir une table tôt pour déjeuner avec nos enfants et éviter de « gêner » le service (je précise que nos poussettes sont pliantes et ultra compactes et que nous avions ramené notre réhausseur). Le restaurant était quasiment vide mais il n’était pas possible d’avoir une table car visiblement nous n’étions pas assez « rentables » pour la patronne car nos 2 enfants n’allaient pas consommer et qu’il nous fallait malgré tout une table pour 6 personnes. Je suis profondément choquée qu’en 2023 on en soit encore là et qu’il faille presque s’excuser de venir avec des enfants en bas âge. Il semble à priori important de rappeler à cette femme les bases du commerce et que ce n’est pas parce que nous nous ne sommes que « 4 » à consommer que pour autant l’addition sera plus petite que pour 6 personnes (vous n’avez jamais eu une commande de 6 margaritas avec 1 carafe d’eau ?!). Je vous ai demandé si vous étiez maman, visiblement oui… À croire que vous avez oublié les débuts avec des enfants en bas âge mais aussi votre sens du service client au passage.

Update suite à la réponse de la direction : Quelle mauvaise foi…. Étonnamment, contrairement à vos propos, la terrasse était loin d’être complète une heure plus tard, Je vais vous rafraîchir la mémoire car même à l’intérieur ce n’était pas possible dès lors que vous avez appris que nos enfant ne mangeraient pas, votre serveur en était même gêné et s’en est excusé. Ne vous inquiétez pas pour nous, nous avons trouvé un autre restaurant juste à côté très accueillant, délicieux et surtout...

We had so many options in town and decided the fun atmosphere (and breeze) at La Cantina should be our last meal in St. Remy. What a wonderful experience. The service by Mangy was fantastic. She was engaging and fun and despite us speaking limited French and her limited English we ordered a tasty meal and bottle of wine and had a blast!

I recommend a late dinner and finish it with a lemon sorbet, which was amazing! We sampled the menu and had pizza, pasta, and focaccia and all were perfect.
