Walked into this restaurant on a cold night. Felt very welcomed by the shop owner.
I was quite tempted to have the lobster menu but it was filled with lobster dishes and I wanted some variety, so I went for the daily menu.
Started with 2 pieces of bread with white cheese and herbs. Very surprised by the cheese, I felt the flavour of the herb exploded in my mouth. The herb and cheese complemented each other nicely. The bread was made in house. 1 was topped with white sesame seed and the was topped with poppy seeds. I loved the 1 with sesame seeds, the seeds weren't simply decorative, it was very flavorful.
Next was pumpkin soup with shrimps. The taste of pumpkin was well balanced with the cream. It was a perfect balance enhanced with the flavour of shrimp. Shrimps were very fresh, sweet with the perfect bite.
Following the pumpkin soup was calamari. The dish reminded me of Singapore chilli crab but non-spicy, with a thinner consistency because it wasn't thicken with egg. The surprise in this dish was the peppercorn. It gave the dish a really nice kick in the mouth and enhanced the flavour of the dish. The calamari was also well-cooked so it didn't feel too chewy nor too mushy. Calamari was very fresh and cooked flavourfully unlike some calamari that have no taste.
The main dish was white fish. This shop serves nothing much fresh. The flavour of the fish was on point, no fishy smell or taste. The side dishes and sauce complemented the fish really well, never overpowering the flavour of the fish. It was simple and delightful.
Dessert was pear with a hint of lemon, caramel sauce, a purple sour sauce, a scoop of chocolate and a crispy crystallized sugar bite. The caramel was very smooth and not overly sweet, does not stick on your teeth and goes very well with the peer. Chocolate was amazing, it really melts into your heart.
Overall, the food was amazing, the service was amazing. It was a great dining experience in this little humble restaurant hidden in Paris!
Last but not least, feel free to give Caesar a good pat or rub. He is...
Read moreToday was my second visit (lunchtime) to La Barriere as I returned to Paris on business from the States again. My prior visit was in November of 2018 for dinner. On both occasions I was greeted warmly by Malika (the chef’s wife) who is perhaps the most beautiful and impeccably dressed woman on the planet. I’d say she deserves 1/2 half the credit for the success of the business as she is a very professional, hard-working, and efficient service provider (doing it all) and makes each guest feel very special and appreciated. Once again, I sampled from among their various Lobster dishes (several courses) which are all delicious. I also again enjoyed their homemade Apple Tart (Huge!) dessert which is made to order (so be patient). Soooo good! There was a noticeably larger crowd for lunch vs. dinner (every table occupied by the time I left) which is perhaps not surprising as the area is much more business vs. residential. A reservation might be a good idea for lunch just in case, especially if a party of three or more. Dinner however was much less hectic and relaxed so walk-ins should be no problem. One thing is for certain, this is definitely the best high-end French themed restaurant within the Clichy section of Paris and well worth visiting.
Side note: As an American, it took some adjusting to the on-site (i.e., walking around) french bulldog mascot that is like a member of the staff, which is forbidden in our Country, but after finding many cats similarly walking around several other restaurants I visited during my stay, I realized this is commonplace and accepted in France - “so when in Rome”...
Read moreIn love! Came here on February 6 and it was so good, we had to come back on February 8. Malika is a very welcoming hostess and the food is wonderful. I had the "signature menu" which featured lobster. I knew I was in for a treat when I tasted the lobster salad with fresh basil. So much flavor. The lobster cassolette was truly wonderful with a nice amount of lobster. The homemade lobster tulip with fricassee and mashed potatoes was exceptional. Dessert was the crème brulee with grand marnier and gingerbread crisp and it was delicious. The second night I started with the escargot which was wonderful. Main course was the rump steak which was very tasty. Crème brulee was so nice, I had to do it twice lol. Very comfortable atmosphere, great food and wine, and Malika is a sweetheart. What more can you ask for? Our new go-to...
