A Disastrous Experience at Le Castel on New Year’s Day lunch: vulgar language and aggressive behavior the team
We’ve always loved the Cap Horn/La Caleche group of restaurants in Chamonix and have enjoyed many wonderful dining experiences at their establishments in the past. Unfortunately, our visit to Le Castel on New Year’s Day lunch was an absolute disaster that left us shocked and deeply disappointed.
We were a group of three families with small children. While we understand that New Year’s Day can be busy, the service we received was unacceptable. We ordered standard meals—burgers, kids’ meals, and a soup. Right away, there were issues: the soup never arrived despite multiple reminders, and something as basic as ketchup for the children took an unreasonable amount of time.
When we politely asked for ketchup again, the waiter responded with unnecessary attitude, telling us we were “asking too much” and needed to be patient. His response was surprising, especially given how simple the request was.
The most shocking part of the experience came when we went to pay. The waiter who had been serving us became hostile and outright vulgar. In front of our children, he insulted my wife and used extremely inappropriate language. He commented on the size of our bill and said, “Je m’en branle le couille,” which translates to something like, “With your bill, I can’t even wank my balls.” He repeated this horrifying statement and aggressively added that our bill wasn’t worth his time.
We tried to address this with the management, but they completely ignored our complaint and showed no interest in resolving the matter.
This experience at Le Castel was not only disappointing but appalling, especially coming from a restaurant group like Cap Horn/ La Caleche, which we’ve held in high regard. If you’re visiting Chamonix and want a family-friendly, respectful dining experience, we strongly urge you to...
Read moreWe were quite disappointed by our experience at Restaurant Le Castel. While the patio and outdoor atmosphere is quite spendid, we waited over 45 minutes for our main course while we watched others being served before us. On top of that, the food was either extremely greasy or subpar. For example, my parents ordered the fondue and it was almost milky and watery in texture. When they tried to tell us “that’s the way fondue is” my stepdad (who is Swiss) kindly reminded them that this is not how fondue should be. What’s worse is that they charged us for it eventhough we didn’t eat it. On top of that the bill was extraordinary high for four people. We were not pleased. This restaurant needs to learn a thing or two about service, respect and...
Read moreMy husband and I just ate there the food was good, but be very careful with the staff some of them are not very honest with the prices, double check your bills or triple check if you have to, for example they had a different wine and different price on the check for us, completely different from what we had ordered, we asked for the wine list to confront them but of course they didn't follow the request, and I could see this wasn't just one simple mistake... We even left 30 euro tip, I hope I made my point clear that it isn't about the money but indeed it's about...
