La Pierre Chaude — Restaurant in Boulogne-sur-Mer

For me an old fashioned French restaurant from the days of the boulogne day trip a real throwback. Atmosphere was fun owner was ebullient wife was a bit grumpy, almost a stereotypical little bistro. As to the food, Average. Fish soup a bit watery roueille was good. My oysters wer dissapointing, not plump not hugely fresh one I couldn't eat, just felt too risky. I Love Oysters and living near Mersey Island eat Oysters often these were not a patch. My partner had Moule, again not great rather tired mussels a little dried out. My duck breast was roasted very well and pink but never had pepper corn sauce with it before. . Dessert totally sweet and forgettable. Did I enjoy it? Well sort of,it was fun but the food was really not very good and both of us felt a bit rough...

We always take delight in finding somewhere that provides unpretentious, but delicious food like La Pierre Chaud does ... and with such charming aplomb! Enhancing the anticipation prompted by our first glance of their lunch menu, when we went inside, we were also welcomed with warmth and kindness as we were shown to a suitable table. During the course of our lunch, it was apparent the friendliness & jocularity we'd experienced continued to be happily extended throughout the rest of our meal, and all others were similarly welcomed as they arrived and were seated. Took our 8 year old son here during a 2 night stay in Boulogne sur Mer. First to arrive (around 7pm), which sometimes feels odd, but owners were extremely welcoming and reacted warmly to our 'Pigeon-French' attempts. We all had Moules et Frites, as we wanted to encourage our son to try them. He ended up 'borrowing' some of ours! The place had almost filled completely by the time our main course arrived and, if I'd had enough space, I would have tried one of the other dishes I saw, which all looked delicious. Chocolate mousse (son) and our desserts were devoured enthusiastically. What a delightful place. Will definitely visit again if we return...
