Ah, A Piazzetta, a place where culinary dreams go to die, and wallets are unceremoniously emptied. Nestled quaintly in a picturesque little square, this establishment lures unsuspecting tourists with the promise of authentic cuisine and charming ambiance. But beware, dear diners, for behind this pleasant façade lies an overpriced, gastronomic catastrophe.
Let's start with the star of my ordeal: the pasta. Imagine my surprise when the sauce arrived resembling something I'd expect on a kid's menu at a chain restaurant. The flavor was so bland, it made plain water taste like a Michelin-starred creation in comparison. I wouldn't be shocked if they outsourced their sauce-making to a preschool class.
Now, onto the prawns. Or should I say, the shell-on prawns that required a degree in crustacean engineering to dismantle. By the time I had painstakingly excavated the meat from each one, my pasta had cooled to a temperature more suitable for serving sushi. Nothing says fine dining like a half-hour battle with your dinner, right?
Adding insult to injury, this charming establishment operates on a cash-only basis. It's almost as if they're living in a pre-digital era or perhaps they just enjoy watching tourists scramble to find the nearest ATM. How delightfully quaint!
In summary, unless you enjoy overpriced, bland pasta and a prawn shelling workout, avoid A Piazzetta like the plague. The only redeeming quality is its location in a lovely square, which, incidentally, you can enjoy just as well without subjecting yourself to this culinary travesty. Read moreDon't be dissuaded by the crowds. The restaurant occupies almost the entire square in the summer and people come and go. You will be seated soon. The service is fast, the owner makes sure she visits every table, managing her business closely. The pastas are served in huge pans, so expect a hefty portion. The one with langoustines cost 24€ and is totally worth it. We also had a meat platter with local cold cuts and a steak (photos). The platter could be richer for the price (12€), but the quality was high. The steak was a bit fatty for my taste, but otherwise good. I would rather choose the wild boar, next time. The wine was great and the local beer a treat....
Read moreVery bad experience, we went there at 10:30pm on a Monday night and the restaurant was half empty. The waiter was not happy with the 3 of us ordering only one plate and a bottle of wine to share, he pressured us to order more, we said no and he left the table angry. After few minutes we told him to cancel our order as we didn't feel comfortable, the owner then came to ask what was the problem, we explain to him and he argued it was a normal reaction "you guys order only one plate for 3"... Food was looking good though but it is not enough to offer a nice dining...
