One night only in Chalons en Champagne - after two weeks of France, we wanted a little bite closer to home. The fish and chips were excellent and would not be amiss if the reatwas in the UK. Battered correctly and served with homemade chips and tartar sauce. Washed down with two bottles of the local Joseph Perrier Rose Champagne. Excellent excellent and will be returning next time in the region. PS dont let the terrace setting put you off! It may look like a terrace in every village centre but the staff are tip top. A lovely place with excellent food and great service. We were travelling through and staying for one night only. We had already tried two brasseries on the main square, both of whom expressed horror at the thought of allowing a small dog into their premises. We tried Le Comptoir and when asked if dogs were allowed not only did they say 'of course' but produced a bowl of water for him without us asking. That set the tone.

Service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent - I had the burger with comté and my wife had the Brochette d'onglet de boeuf which was sublime. The café gourmand was top quality.

My food was great, my friends had no complaints about their meals either and really enjoyed their meals. In fact they were return customers, it was my first time. The did tell me that the menu changes regularly, which I love the idea of . The service was excellent, drinks and food were served really quickly. Staff were super pleasant, and as I am English speaking they really tried to accommodate and assist me.
