Ferdinand — Restaurant in Châlons-en-Champagne

Restaurant looks so attractive so we chose to eat and hopefully have a special meal to end our holiday. My wife's main course was cold so was sent back (and apparently microwaved) before returning again for her to notice some of the chicken pieces were green! My 'speciality gratin' was heated up potato wedges, with a layer of mass-produced chicken pieces on top and and later of cheese. Very unappetising and so expensive for what it was. No culinary skill at all! Clearly they don't try hard because they are in a convenient position and can rely on passing trade. I've never before had a bad meal in France, until this one. I shall be more cautious to check reviews and not trust France's usually well-deserved culinary reputation...

We went on a quiet day and at a quiet time. Waitress was not very attentive. Took a while to see us and understand that we want to eat.

Food came pretty quick. Quite basic. Salmon dish was random ingredients put together without any thought. Steak and fries was standard nothing special. Fries were not very fresh. Seems like using an old oil.

Decor inside is atrocious. Also outside it looks like a run down cafe.

Asked for a baby chair and was provided one with dirty top. Not cleaned and did not bother to clean. So we did not use it at the end.

Chosen more for the fact that on a windy day they still had umbrellas up for shade than anything else! Told we couldn’t sit at a table that was set and offered one in the sun! Said we will go elsewhere and then offered another table in the shade! Food took forever to arrive, other table’s ordered after us and were finished before we got ours! Husband had the plat de jour of filet minion, he said the sauce was good!
