On our last night in Colmar we dined in this restaurant. Reservations are necessary (many guests were turned away when showing up without)

It's a very classy, very stylish restaurant with an interesting menu. We got a table upstairs. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Thanks for that!

Ordered a bottle of wine - fair prices - and got our complementary Amuse-Bouche soon.

Ordered the Tuna Tartare and the Croque-Monsieur with Langoustines for starters. The Tartare was incredible. A wonderful twist with the matching seeds on top and a good load of oil/lemon juice. Fresh, crunchy, tasty. The best item of the night! And one of the best - maybe THE best - Tuna Tartare I've ever had. The Croque Monsieur with Langoustine was a bit disappointing. Just not enough Langoustine and/or seafood flavour. It'd be alright...but it wasn't cheap for what we got.

For the mains we've had the grilled fish and the veal sweetbreads. The fish was really fresh, cooked to perfection. But not too exciting. Good, but no twist there. The sweetbreads were a good choice though. Don't let yourself put off by the thought of what it actually is. It's actually the thymus (also called throat, gullet). But if you have an open mind, then you're in for a very tasty, very tender piece of meat. And this one here was cooked perfectly.

Planned on having a Digestif after dinner. But the place was really really busy and the waiter had to run up and down the stairs all the time. Felt a bit bad for him. That's a lot of work.

Waited a good 20mins or so, but still busy. So we decided to call it a night without a Digestif.

All in all a good dinner. Good, but not great. Two out of four items were really amazing. Two were average though. And price-wise it's definitely on the higher end. Friendly...

Food was traditional french cuisine, served in a presentable fashion, using fairly modern techniques (including black fruits). Wine pairing was excellent. Regrettably, everything else about the experience was a disaster. We were seated at a table at the terasse, next to a ventilation system, which polluted the air with not only a constant noise, but occasionally oozed an odor of sewage. When we confronted the waiter, he apologized, but didn’t take any further action to seat us someplace else, or deduct from our bill. Another minor annoyance was the furniture, which didn’t allow for the legs of the chair to be tucked under the table, leaving you seated 30 cm further away from the table, i.e. I literally had to sit on the edge of my chair to reach the food. All in all, great food and wine, killed by horribly bad surroundings. When you pay 80€ for a dining experience in France, basic things like trouble-free seating, clean air and quiet surroundings has to be a given. At Restaurant Le Quai 21 however, it is not....

Miserabler Service

Keine Frage ob uns da essen geschmeckt hatte. Ende. PS: die Kellner trugen...

What a special restaurant this is. It is located in Old Town surrounded by beautiful and colourful historical buildings. What a great setting. From the minute we stepped in we were greeted warmly by the server. We chose the terrace seats and was brought to a romantic terrace. You wouldn't know from the facade of the building that a terrace even exists. We chose the 4 course meal with drinks accompaniment. Every course was presented beautifully as seen on the photos. The servers were detailed in explaining each courses and drinks accompaniment. They were warm, very professional and seems very passionate in their job. All in all this is such a delightful experience and what fantastic value. It is also recommended in the Michelin guide so you know it is definitely excellent! If you are in Colmar please try this restaurant. It is worth it and more.
