We found this place via Google Maps, as two average wine enthusiasts. Even though the atmosphere was quaint and authentic, the menu was limited for people who want to drink a specific wine by glass. When we first saw the “wine bar” sign, we assumed we’d be able to taste various wines, and would learn about the wines specific to this region, alas, this was not the case at all. Even though there is a huge, and possibly a rich cellar, you can only order them by bottle (which we did not want to). And for people who want to taste different wines, there were two options: blind tasting of 5 wines (equal to 2 glasses of wine in total, as per the menu, or 8 wines, again, relative quantity as before. We did not prefer the blind tasting experience because, considering it is a wine “bar”, we expected to choose from options. Actually this was the case when we visited other similar places in different cities when we were in the Alsace region. We were surprised by the technology actually, but there is this tool that allows you to make a whole inside the cork to elongate the life of the wine, after serving it. Wines introduced for blind tasting could also be served by glass, because nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing could justify the 10€ price attributed to a relatively young, and not at all characteristic house wine or whatever that juice was. I was not impressed, and rather disappointed by the dirty glasses with lip stains and greasy finger marks as well. A place that describes itself as a “wine bar” should sell degustation-quantity of wine selections rather than just “blind experience”. Of course, if there is a niche community of people that prefers the experience, the term “wine bar” just tricks the casual visitors. As a result, if you’re into older wines and if you know your wine, this could be your place. If you just want to have a glass of different wine at each order, then look for some place...
Read moreThe Caveau de Saulx is a precious and unique place where the pleasure of wine meets the special passion of the owner. Going down the stairs you can breathe an atmosphere of times gone by, with tables and sofas, slightly dim lights and stone walls. The place is very welcoming and characteristic. The place is focused on the value of vintage wines, which can be purchased both by the bottle and by the glass, and in blind tasting mode, which I highly recommend. The gastronomic accompaniment is suitable for the proposed concept: platters of selected high quality cured meats and cheeses, as well as some hot dishes, pleasantly accompany the wine experience. Particular note of merit goes to the owner who welcomes guests into his cellar with extreme passion, shares his rare bottles with them and accompanies them on an intense and fascinating tasting journey. The prices, given the quality and rarity offered, are really low because, repeating the owner's words, "wine is sharing". As a restaurateur, lover of wine and good gastronomy, the welcome and spirit that you can breathe here is...
Read moreA vintage wine-lovers paradise!! A must-visit for anyone interested in how wine evolves. You can be a beginner or be an MW or MS. It was a museum (a dreamland if you will) full of old vintages. The team were so friendly, informative and made it a fun and memorable experience. Set in a secluded cave beneath Dijon, you’ll be taken on an incredible & unique tasting journey. We were then so fortunate to meet Olivier - the most humble and generous owner. His charming personality, warm heart and of course his collection of wine are just utterly impressive!! We’re talking rare beauties that have gracefully aged from as old as you can only imagine. And some stunning aged spirits too!! I found a new favourite! You’ll learn a great deal, you’ll be seduced by these perfectly-kept bottles, and most importantly you’ll have a lot of fun and listen to some nice music as you go! Thank you...
